Rory got a nice $4,500,000 pay day. Nice . No wonder he has a $20 M mansion in both the U.S. & the U.K. Curious how much Arnie & Nicklaus made in their prime?

And it pales in comparison to what he makes on endorsements.
He's very very rich

PGA website says Jack made around $5.7M and Arnie $1.8M in career earnings.
Obviously that's just purse money from PGA events and both would have made far, far more money in endorsement deals throughout their careers.

Golf did not see a bump in pay until Tiger

Not too shabby. US tennis open last year was $5M each for the men's and women's champ.

Kind of true.
1980 Seve won 55,000.00
1990 Faldo won 225,000.00

The "Tiger Effect" refers to Tiger Woods' unprecedented impact on golf, which revolutionized the sport from the late 1990s by bringing massive viewership, sponsorship, and revenue to the PGA Tour. This popularity surge caused total prize money to skyrocket, directly enriching other players, with an estimated $1.6 billion in additional prize money generated between 1997 and 2008.
How the "Tiger Effect" Boosted Player Earnings:
Massive Prize Money Increases: When Tiger joined the Tour, purses began to grow exponentially. Between 1985 and 2010, tour earnings increased 10 times faster than inflation. In 1996, only nine golfers won over $1 million; by 2013, 82 golfers achieved this, even with moderate performance.
Increased Revenue from Fans/Sponsors: Tiger brought huge TV ratings, leading to better broadcast deals. In his absence, TV ratings for events drop by an estimated 25-30%.
The "Rising Tide" Effect: Tiger raised the bar for popularity, which attracted lucrative sponsorship deals for numerous players, not just himself.
Long-term Financial Impact: An analysis of 176 players found that the Tiger effect added over $867 million in earnings for those golfers between 1997 and 2008.
Key Beneficiaries & Impact:
Individual Earnings: While Tiger earned large amounts, competitors also gained significantly. For instance, top players like Vijay Singh and Phil Mickelson saw their earnings surge by an estimated $36 million and $29 million respectively due to this effect.
Broadening the Wealth: The rise in total purse money meant even mid-tier players could make over $1 million in a season (e.g., Brian Stuard) without winning a tournament, simply by making cuts and placing top-ten in a few events.
Industry-Wide Growth: The era saw a massive influx of marketing money, television interest, and increased sponsorships, changing the economic landscape of professional golf forever.
In essence, Tiger Woods made golf popular, fun, and cool, which forced the entire industry to grow, directly causing a significant increase in the financial rewards for all participating players.

Not by OT standards.

Don't forget his $50M G6. Nice to have a puddle jumper to scoot up to Augusta for the day from Jupiter and hit the Champion's driving range. The jet is twice as much as his home.

Rory will be a billionaire soon if he's not already. He makes an unconscionable amount of money on and off the course.
Even a guy like Spieth who hasn't won in forever is still probably worth 50-100 million.

I think Rory’s base endorsement deals are 40-55 million a year up to the 90s.
He’s doing alright.

In the 70s, the winner made between 40-60k at most tournaments. Jack was leading money winner a lot of times with like $400k.

tournament purses have far surpassed inflation but 400k in 1970 is around 3.5 million today.

Pros back then always had money games lined up in every town in order to make some real money. The pro-am games the day before the tournament starts grew out of that.
