It’s certainly not a great film, but I’m amazed at how much his face and expressions remind me of Lon Chaney Jr.

Incredible cast with Anthony Hopkins and Hugo Weaving, and I completely forgot Emily Blunt was in this.

I appreciate what they were going for, but it simply doesn’t come together.

How is it that none of Universal’s efforts to reintroduce the classic monsters have worked? Aside from the 1999 Mummy, the last two-plus decades have all been misfires, it seems.

The only one I liked was Invisible Man with *Elizabeth Moss.

Mummy with Cruise and Wolfman with Gardner were garbàgè

*sorry. Wrong but hotter Moss.

The bigger question is why hasn’t the werewolf genre been able to top An American Werewolf in London?

Robert Eggers is about to attempt it next. If anything, we’ll know it’s going to be dark.

I actually enjoyed the hell out of Wolf Man (2025). Thought it was the best recent one.

Elizabeth moss
And yeah, that one was pretty good

I haven’t seen the Tom cruise mummy or Benicio Del Toro Wolfman, but I think I’ll end up watching them. Maybe everyone is wrong, and they’re actually super fun and scary.

The best modern werewolf adaptation was in Van Helsing with Hugh Jackman.

Movie was subpar, but the soundtrack was outstanding.

I'm surprised The Wolfs Hour by Robert McCammon has never been made into a movie

Because aside from the 99 Mummy flick, theyve all deviated from the source material and the things that made them work.

Me, I think they should give up trying to remake them, treat the golden age flicks as cannon, and simply make sequels to those movies. And with AI, they could do just that: buy the rights from the families to make AI versions of Lugosi, Karloff, and Chaney.

I think the classic monsters have become cartoony cliches in our culture so it's hard to take them seriously.

Hence why I think Stephen Sommers's decision to turn The Mummy into a high budget adventure film ala Indiana Jones was one of the smartest decisions a director has ever made in the genre.
