Like Skip told the pitcher in a mound visit, “I ain’t mad at you, I’m mad at myself for recruiting you.”

I love Jay and he’s earned his career here as long as he wants it. But he better regroup this year and do a better job in the portal. And I am counting on him that he will.

I don't know what the issue is with this team, but it's clear all the pow wows and talks aren't fixing the issues.

The issue is Milam is the only really good infielder we have and the inability to get base hits with runners in scoring position. That’s really the biggest drop off from last year from being a middle of the pack to being at the top of the sec. Unless one of these guys some how turns it on within the next couple of weeks the season is basically over.

We field like a little league team and going 0fer in the portal and it being the first time in a while we don’t have any plug and play freshman has created a gap where we can’t put enough reliable players on the field at the same time.

It's really not that complicated. When the guys are on, they can hit and score with anyone. The problem is when they aren't, could be just a bad day at the plate or a superior pitcher. When those days happen, you have to #1,not walk batters and #2, play good defense. You have to win those 3-2, 4-3 games by doing those 2 things and right now LSU can't do either. They win buy just destroying teams or by miraculous comebacks where they have to score multiple runs late in the game, those are fun and exciting but not a recipe for sustained success.

Exactly, you really only have one guy that you can count on consistently in the line up, Curiel. Brown hit a HR and looked terrible in every at bat after that.

Worst defensive team I’ve seen from Jay Johnson.

Sounds to me like he’s hinting around to the fact that he knows he got beat in the portal and recruiting.
Talking about MLB jobs. ( a play for more $$$)
Ticked about the Rev share disbursement. (another play for more $$$)
Then last nights post game comments,
“Maybe it’s better coaching, maybe it’s recruiting…”
He appears to want to say more but just doesn’t. I feel he also knows this team doesn’t have the talent that this program needs to succeed at the highest level this year.

I wonder how many runs we’ve given up because of catchers who can’t catch and infielders who look like it’s their first time on the field. Milam is outstanding, but the rest of the defense…?!?! Do we have more errors than runs?? We can do ok with our bats and our pitching, but this bad a defense at this level is beyond frustrating.

He had the #1 hs class and #1 portal class
It wasnt money or rev share it was where it was spent
We did not go get an elite arm we got a good arm in Moore.
He swung and missed on Simpson, caraway, Yorke
Dardar is average not terrible not great.

The key to any team is a solid catcher that , Jay missed on arraibide did not make the next step. Serna is improving but still needs some work.
A great defensive catcher with a mid bat is worth the loss at the plate.

Couldn’t have explained this better. Spot on.

I also can’t explain why a few of our guys still swing for the fence with 2 strikes and runners on. You shorten your swing and put the ball in play. Not to mention the fact that we can’t bunt. Drives me crazy…you catch the ball with your bat…you don’t jab at it. I know Dardar doesn’t practice this bc he looks like a 6 year old bunting.

I think we have found a functional infield with Braun, Dardar, Pearson and Milam.

But you can’t get cute and move away from that at this stage, those four guys need to be on the field, regardless of what else is happening.

AGAIN - Caraway was the number 5 ranked player in the portal and has been a no show. Look at some of the others. He also had to freaking catch up because of their run in Omaha- you know winning it - while others sat on their asses at home like Tennessee, who got a pitcher they wanted desperately.

There aren't many that get paid more than Jay in MLB, Dave Roberts is an anomaly at 8M with the Dodgers. Verge has already stated that LSU baseball will be getting significantly more funds to bring in high level players. Jay was limited in recruiting due to playing for the CWS title while other teams were stacking players.

It is what it is, the moaning and crying of the fans has gotten old, and it's the players that need to play at a much higher level than that shite show yesterday. I'm not a fan currently of how players are procured with $$$$$$ and then play very mediocre ball.

Well Jay has to do a better job scouting. Simple as that. despite whatever ranking is given to a player. His player evaluation should be better. Can't miss on the entire nil class like this and expect success in the sec.

When you rely as much on the portal as we had to for instant starters this year, there is a chance this can happen. These weren’t plug and play SEC guys like Stanny who we knew could cut it before they ever put on an LSU uniform. I think it’s rare that basically no one works out as well or better than you hoped, but that’s what happened.

Considering Jay’s previous success with the portal, this is likely a one-off made worse by being in Omaha when the portal opened. The fact that we have 2 recruits already rotating as starters and playing a role is a good sign that evaluations across the board aren’t the problem.

I love Curiel, but he didn’t cash in his big AB with RISP last night. He got the sac fly to tie it, but those were win the game moments and he didn’t come through in either.

Stanny and Braun were pretty damn good last night, especially early in the game. We just have have more contributors in any given game. We’ve showed at times over the last 2 weekends that this offense can be lethal when 4 or 5 guys are in gear with others sprinkling in contributions. But we just have too many games where only 1-3 hit for average and the rest disappear.

Deez Nuts says the bigger issue is players like Pearson being fat and slow and nothing but a dead red FB hitter.
Stanfield, Milam, Brown, and others not carrying the load. Hell, Curiel struggled mightily until recently. You get consistent line drives and consistent hitting with RISP from those guys and you win a lot.
You had 3 fricking punch outs with no outs and the bases loaded on Tuesday night by your three best hitters. You’re down in the game. No fricking excuse for that bulk shite

This, we legit look like a bad middle school team behind the plate. So many dropped pitches. I've never seen a college team drop so many.
