Importance of mid week games?

Is Mascona still parroting the narrative that mid week games do not matter at all? It has always been my opinion that they do matter because it’s about forming habits. You can’t just ignore part of of your schedule

This debate will never go away.

Generally losing a couple of midweek games doesn’t matter. But losing enough of them and tanking your RPI can keep you out of the postseason if you’re a borderline team. Luckily LSU will get the benefit of the doubt because of the brand name. Everyone just needs to admit that this argument varies by season.

It's a fluid situation.
No in most season they dont matter because our RPI is good enough where they dont matter.
We now have 5 Quad 4 losses, by far the most we've had in a long time - 2020-2025 we never had more than 2.
Our RPI is sitting at 75 after the loss last night.
So yeah, this season literally every game, including mid-week games, will matter a lot moving forward. I believe there's definitely scenarios we could miss the tournament altogether even if we finished 14-16 in conference play which has basically always been an automatic for an SEC team to make the tournament. If your RPI is in the 50s though, that's a difference landscape. Blowing those 2 games to Vandy and OU late hurt a lot more now than they even did back when it happened. You worry less if we were sititng 8-4 in the conference than 6-6.

I think that mindset is in terms of reaching the postseason. History has shown the midweek games aren't terribly important in that respect. Obviously a SEC team can't lose them all, but a handful of losses won't hurt your chances of making the tournament.

Like when? I’m struggling to remember

Like 2010, like 2024, etc
2010 had 14 SEC wins(plus SEC Tourney champs) and a higher RPI than multiple tournament teams-didn’t make it anywhere besides at ucla which was a joke
2024 greatly under seeded and sent to UNC which was a joke as well.

It’s never been black and white.
Midweek games don’t matter when you go 20-10 in the SEC.
Midweek games absolutely matter when you go 13-17 in the SEC.

Jay won’t be able to screw around and tinker with finding pitchers with the midweek games, and will have to use trusted arms to win them from here on out…which could hurt us on weekends and also prevents
That’s the main downside, shortens our pitching depth and bullpen

You played three swac games
All three were bad for Rpi
You would be better off playing ull three midweek games to get the sun belt bump
Rpi certainly matters and lsu is in a bad spot
The goal should be 16 sec wins to feel safe with where this rpi is sitting

Not a huge deal if they continue to win SEC series. Let’s be honest though, you shouldn’t be giving up double digit runs and losing to Bethune Cookman.

A big reason why LSU made the ncaa tournament in 2021 despite being 13-17 in the SEC was because they lost only 1 midweek game.
They were 34-22 on selection Monday. Lose 4 more of those midweek games and sit at 30-26 no way in hell they make it.
LSU also lost only 1 midweek game in 2024.

The way you lose them matters from a confidence standpoint, in my opinion.
Shaky mid week pitching is to be expected but when you can’t hit their bullpen and you commit multiple errors, that’s no bueno.

LSU was 13-17 in SEC play. They lost 6 of 10 SEC series. Of the 4 series they won, only 1 (vs. A&M) was against a team that reached the NCAA Tournament. They weren't going to be a No.1 regional seed with that record. In fact, there was a reasonable argument to make them a 3 seed.
5 SEC teams hosted regionals. LSU wasn't going to be sent to those. That, plus the fact the committee generally tries to keep regionals "regional" (compared to basketball), made the UNC regional not a wholly illogical spot. I seem to recall a lot of people thinking LSU might go to the Clemson regional (6th overall seed) or Florida St. (8th overall seed). Vandy went to Clemson and Alabama went to FSU. Geographically both made sense. Now, could you say the same about LSU being sent to FSU or Clemson? Sure. But I don't think it was a "joke" to send that LSU team to UNC

Mascona is similar to most people here, and they believe these games don't matter. However, these "it's just a midweek game" do matter when you're giving bench players a chance to prove they are worth a shot during a 3 game series. I believe that applies to the bullpen more than anyone else.
After last night, who would you trust out of the bullpen?

To me, the commiteee giving you benefit of the doubt, it means you are seeded above your RPI/metrics
Twice recently I could think right away the opposite has been done for lsu. 2010 being the most egregious
