Got the reel into a tangled mess.

How does a guy in his late 50s pull this shite?

Had a group last spring and one of them fished all day like that. This after I showed him the correct position.
The other two were not much more advanced so I just let them go due to life being short.
Some head scratching shite some days on my boat.

My guide friend in Charleston, when fishing near shore reefs, will instruct his party to turn all their Penn Battles upside down when another boat approaches so they won't anchor too close. It works.

Friend of mine that was a very good fisherman would turn his right handed bait caster over and reel with his left hand.

Said that was the only way he’d ever fished with them and didn’t care to change.

That's hilarious.

Funny you mention this. My bait casters are right handed, but for whatever reason, I swap my handle on my spinning reels to the right side as well. It feels correct or "right" to me.

I can't tell you how many people have used them and ask why I have right handed bait casters and left handed spinning reels.

I don't think I'm the crazy one here, but I am definitely in the minority.

I’m left handed and I fish exactly like this. How screwed up does that make me?

I'm right-handed but do a lot of stuff left-handed. I shoot long guns left handed & pistols right-handed. I fight both left & right-handed. Bat both left & right-handed. Throw/catch right-handed.

I fish just like you!

I am right handed but prefer to cast with my right and reel with my left. It seems like the majority are the opposite

I always have to move the handle to the right side. My left is so dumb that if I brushed my teeth with my left hand I'd need to hold the brush stationary and move my head.

I injured my right wrist at one point, and your comment about brushing teeth left handed hits home. It was so awkward, and I pretty much just held it with my left and moved my head around.

There are only a few things that I do well left-handed. The best being driving a vehicle. I learned to drive on a 5-speed manual, and after 30 years of driving, even when I'm in an automatic, I can't steer worth a crap with my right hand. It was always shifting gears so my natural tendency is to drive with my left hand.

More accurately, the more lazy one. Spend the one trip it takes to get comfortable doing it right.

We've done a couple of guided fly fishing trips in the salt recently. My son is left hand retrieve and I'm right hand retrieve. I know it's a PITA for a guide to switch the retrieve on a fly rod, but I let them know on both trips that we had one of each (and asked if we should bring our own rods to accomodate). On the first trip, I ended up having to strip/retrieve with my off hand and on the other trip my son had to. Which is actually pretty annoying when fishing for saltwater species when the ability to strip effectively is pretty important.

and yes, I know you can just strip with natural hand and then swap hands once you hook a fish, but it's still a PITA and adds chaos to the already chaotic situation. I also hate fighting a big fish with my hands swapped.
