What are the best snake boots or gaiters out there? The club I’m in is full of rattlesnakes and I am getting in to turkey hunting so I figure I better get something. What do y’all recommend?

I tried gaiters on a south Texas spot and stalk hunt and they were a PITA. Made a ton of noise and wouldn’t stay put. I bought a pair of lacrosse snake boots and never looked back. I wear them all year for hunting/working my lease or property bc they are the most comfortable work boots I own.

Danner Sharptail boots. I’ve thought about trying Twisted X for my next pair but it’s hard to give up on the Danners

Yes. I can’t speak on durability yet, but mine are very comfortable and waterproof.

I keep two pair.

Lacrosse Rubber boots that are snake boots and Chippewa’s for South Texas and Hill Country. My Chip’s are not water proof but I think they may make them.

Use the Lacrosse for more wet areas like LA or South East Texas.

Make sure you get comfortable lightweight water proof boots, slip on or zipper type

Not sure if they were the best but I had a pair of lacrosse tallgrass square toes that I got probably 5-7yrs out of. Wore them probably 30-50days a year before the soles came unglued. I reglued them a couple times but finally retired them.
I wore my lacrosse rubber boots yesterday morning and just knowing I didn’t have my snake boots on had me thinking about it not nervous but just in my mind.
I looked at twisted x yesterday but the sole is glued on just like lacrosse. I saw tecova has a new snake boot I may try to check them out or just get a pair of Chippewa.
Go with a pair of boot instead of gaiters just because of comfort and ease of wearing them.

I have a pair of Twisted X pull on, not snake boots, that I’ve worn daily for 2+ years. Sole is starting to separate at the toe a little and I’ve bought a replacement pair. But these just refuse to die so I’m still wearing them.

If they’ll take that kind of wear I wouldn’t worry about the snake boot soles with the limited use they get.

I have some economy ones from academy. Magellan I believe. About $130. 2 seasons in so far so good but I would not want to have to hike long distances in them.

I’ve had mine for 4 years now and love them. I can walk all day in them. They aren’t cheap but they have held up well.

I second danner sharptail. If you are walking caliche/south Texas dust roads, oil them where the sole meets the rest of the boot. Helps keep the dust from drying out the leather/glue.

I've had mine going on 7 years, only worn a couple weeks a year though.

Snake boots have come a long ways as far as comfort. I’ve worn gaiters and no way would I wear them over the boots I have

Have a pair of Lacrosse Sport Snake boots that I wear in South MS on every hunt I do except the coldest deer hunts. Love em, 5 seasons of deer and turkey so far.
However, the 23 year old son needs new boots and wants to do some hiking on vacations so he is considering hiking boots and gaiters so he can use the boots on vacation etc. Hope a few more people respond. Good topic.
A lot of my favorite YouTubers use hiking boots snd gaiters I noticed.

Turtleskin gaiters and hiking boots is the way to go. I absolutely hate snake boots. Buy good gaiters and you will love them. Buy crap ones and you'll hate them. It's really that simple.

I prefer boots because they’re easier to deal with and more comfortable to me. I have a pair of Danner’s now that are about 5 or so years old and they’re great. My last pair of Chippewa’s lasted probably 15 years before they started to fall apart but they changed the design on those so I wanted to try the Danners. I’ll wear them cutting grass sometimes if I have to get into a ditch or into the fence line. But if it’s above 50 degrees in south Texas and I’m walking around off of pavement they’ll definitely be on.

I have a pair of Lacrosse (not rubber boots) pull on boots. I use them in and around land work and creeks. Some water seeps in but not a big deal. Wouldn’t want to walk a long way in them. Never trusted the chaps with 4-5 ft timber rattlers around. Would like to see some real testing on the rubber snake boots though.
