#1 prospect in baseball

Let’s see if this means they’re finally trying to get serious in Pittsburgh.

That was a quick stop in AAA. Guess 7 hits in 5 games will do that for the top prospect in the league.

Now if they could just admit that the whole “O’Neill Cruz to CF” experiment was a failure.

And there are people that will tell you with a straight face that HS kids shouldn't get drafted anymore.

Because Griffin would definitely be better off in his sophomore year at LSU than on the big league roster for the Pirates.

Sure he can buy lots of fancy things with his preshious millions the mlb is giving him, but he can never buy back the college experience he missed out on. Im sure when skenes gets ahold of him he will make him wish he would have went to lsu first and then the mlb would still be there. Money isnt everything young pup!

About time, I was surprised Wetherholt made the Cards out of spring but not Griffin with the Pirates.

Do they still make them wait three years if they enter college? If so, that’s dumb. A kid should be able to stop by college for a year or two and go to the pros.

Someone can correct me if i'm wrong, but JUCO can go after 1 year, 4 year college players can leave after 2 years if they turn 21 within 30 (may be 60?) days of the draft. Otherwise, they have to wait 3.

It used to be 21 within 45 days of the draft but they recently (within the last 3 or so years) changed it to a uniform August date. Either the first day or last day, I can't remember. I think August 1.

Way to take an extreme outlier like Griffin to make your point

The extreme outliers are the ones that need to be protected the most. Because it's a long term salary suppression move.

It has nothing to do with development (that still happens in the minor leagues). They want older free agents. Along the way they also get to outsource the washout, another cost saving move.

High school players should be allowed to be drafted

As a whole, with the modern college baseball setup, the majority of first round talent in high school have a better chance of making it to their second contract going to college over going straight to HS

I’m not sure how griffin changes anything, because I think you are being disingenuous with the argument ever being “no player ever is better off going out of high school”

I never said anyone made the argument that no player is better off going out of high school. I said there are people that say that HS players shouldn't get drafted anymore.

Because there are people that are trying to push for high school players to not be eligible for the draft anymore.

Fair enough. I’ve never really seen that argument. More so seems to be around should a kid drafted out of high school go to college or not. And odds now show on average the better choice for the player is college

Overslot Baseball

This a prospect writer talking about it January. Either the players side or the owners side is using him to float the idea ahead of CBA negotiations. But idea itself comes from the owners side.

ETA: And here's a thread from the recruiting board discussing it: LINK

3 years of training/development and NIL in a college environment vs 3 years of riding around in the bus leagues, with maybe a signing bonus in the bank, but otherwise making due on subsistence wages.

For players for whom college is an option, seems like a no-brainer to me.
