University set to charge students nearly six figures per year
George Washington University estimates that students returning to campus will pay close to $100,000 in total costs this upcoming school year alone.
All undergraduate students attending George Washington University (GW) for the 2026–27 academic year will pay $72,000 in tuition, a 3% increase from the previous year, the Washington, D.C.-based school announced in a Friday press release. The total estimated price tag balloons to $98,165 for returning resident students and $95,155 for new students living on campus when all costs are accounted for, the school’s student newspaper The GW Hatchet first reported.

I hereby deny use of my tax money to be loaned to idiots who think this is a good use of funds.

And I thought LSU tuition of $160 a semester was a bit steep back in the day.

When I was looking at 529 options for my kid (class of 2040), several of the models/calculators said to expect college costs to be about $400k.

Government backed student loans shouldnt exist
Its basically fraud to keep all these expensive private universities open. Not much different than somali learning centers

College is nothing more than a form of socialism and government control.
Convince youths they need a college degree for success minimizing their real interests, talents, and passions. Start them out living a lifetime of debt. 90% of the successful ones will go on to be middle to upper middle class workers their whole life paying taxes until their 65 because they’ll never really be wealthy or have f*** you money.

College business model has fallen into failure. You are selling something for a price that it is not worth. More marxist destruction.

To think that I worked full-time summer jobs and thirty hours a week during the school year and paid for my 4 1/2 years of school with no debt.
The issue here is that the government has propped up these institutions and hasn't allowed the Free Market to dictate pricing. Someone should publish an in-depth study showing how much all the Administrators at these public universities are making.

That figure includes room and board and transportation, etc. Still high but that inflates it

Time for a large portion of them to hit the transfer portal.

In my younger years I worked with two wonderful old men that came out of retirement to consult on a construction project we had going. Both told me, to my astonishment, that they attended Auburn ((back when it was API in the 50’s), and were able to pay for 4 years of room, board, books, and tuition, with summer construction jobs. Further, there was no bullshite about rankings or being overly selective. In Frank’s words, “If you did good in high school, could pay your tuition, and they weren’t filled up yet, you got in”. None of this Harvard wannabe bullshite that has infected public colleges. Public colleges were for the benefit of state kids, not competing in a prestige circle jerk.

Who is GWU’s primary target student and do they have this kind of money?
I know the answer to this question.
