Every game seems like a shootout.
Can our pitching find a rotation that works. Or do we just not have the studs we thought we had on the mound?

We literally pitched a shutout 2 games ago.

Are you not seeing improvement?

You have to look at the individuals. The way the whole staff improves is when a few individuals improve and the ones that don't stop being used as much.

well Stanfield did drop a 3rd out in the second inning that led to 3 runs scoring.

But yes if we keep walking people we will have to score 7+ runs a game to win.

I think we can clean up the walks we seem to do that every year

Schmidt is a stud for anyone paying attention. Evans will be a coin flip every week that you can probably tell after the first inning or two. When moore comes back, we can be good there, but until he does, theyll prob have to score 6 or more on game 3s. And yes, theyll prob have to score 6 or more midweek

Yes agree with everything you said. We did have a shutout a few games back but that was an anomly. We are in the bottom half of the league in ERA.
If the damn pitchers would quit giving so many free passes out the ERA would get a lot better.
Fielders have to make plays too.

I’m not counting on getting anything from him for the rest of the season. If he does actually come back and give us some productive innings, that’s just lagniappe.

And this has nothing to do with Moore, it’s Jay. Moore could have had Tommy John last week, and we wouldn’t know until after our season is over.

The inability of LSU fans to see farther than their noses always amuses me. The pitching staff gave up 9 runs TOTAL to Oklahoma.

We were spoiled last year with the Anderson/Eyanson combo that so consistently ate up innings. If I’m not mistaken we won the NC series with 3 pitchers.
Schmidt looks like that type of guy but Evans inconsistency is making things tougher for the whole pitching staff.

If Evans can get to just continually reach 75% of his potential then I think everything else will fall together.

A fielding error cost 3 runs last night. It's not always pitching (not excusing all the walks and hbp).

I think we can improve

The Staff always tightens up as we figure out who the guys are

We’re still trying to figure out who we can rely on and that will change as the season goes and just week to week

If Evans can start pitching consistently good we’re in a great spot.

If your Friday guy is a coin flip every week, you’re in trouble

Correct, but that only happens when you win every game and don't have to go deep in the roster b/c of extra games as we did in 2023. With that said, we only pitched 8 guys in Omaha last year, and 3 of them pitched 1 inning or less. That probably would have looked different if not for the game with the weather delay; Eyanson only got 3 innings in his first start.

Anderson 16 IP
Eyanson 9.1
Shores 7
Cowan 5.1
Evans 5.1
Noot 1
Mayers .2
Williams .1

In 2023, we pitched more players b/c we played the max games (8). 12 pitchers used. But 3 of them (Collins, Little, Dutton) were only used to save other arms in the blowout vs UF. Even with 9 games in Omaha, only 9 guys pitched in meaningful spots.

Skenes 15.2
Floyd 13
Hurd 12
Cooper 9.2
Ack 8.1
Guidry 6
Herring 4.2
Money 1.2
Little 1.2
Coleman 1.1
Collins 1
Dutton 1

tl;dr
8 reliable arms will get you very far in the postseason.

We have used 19 pitchers this season. I really think by the end of the season, 8-9 of those guys will be pitching good enough to make a run.

Sometimes that's 8 arms peaking/finding their groove at the end of the season, who may have been sporadic early.

Agreed. That was my point….we don’t need a ton of pitchers to be successful. If we could just get some consistency out of Evans or Moore then it will make the entire pitching staff exponentially better. We aren’t where we need to be but we aren’t that far from being really competitive either.
