I wonder if your breakdown of choice is dependent more of age

I was 10 when American pie came out.. and yes it still dropped into the lexicon and zeitgeist such as MILF, the pie

But I was 17 when Superbad came out and entering freshman year of college.. and everyone my age quoted it relentlessly and our friends still do. It was a seminal movie experience for me

Superbad is my vote

Superbad for me but it was a big part of my generation. I was a sophomore in hs when it came out. American Pie was for the 90s teens, although it is solid as well.

I was thinking about it, and I like how Lawyered responded to the question.

I was 20 when American Pie came out so they were kind of in my wheel house.

I was 28 when Superbad came out and was already a Dad

I love both movies, but will probably always gravitate towards American Pie.

American Pie

More universal in my opinion. It had something for everyone, and it was able to cover all of the different types of relationships for 90s kids in like one film. Sort of brilliant in that respect. More relatable to a wider group of people.

Superbad

Tighter, better overall humor. Better script.

I graduated high school just a year or 2 before American Pie and that movie really clicked with me.

Both movies are awesome though. There's no wrong answer.

and Shannon Elizabeth ...

Superbad, and it’s not close. Granted, I was in high school when superbad came out, so it really spoke to my experiences a lot more than American Pie did.

American Pie’s music puts it ahead of Superbad.

American Pie for me. Embraced all the innocence and purity of youth vs expectations. Also was in college when it came out.

Superbad was just some nerds trying to get laid at all costs. Also the ‘hot chick’ in the movie was a ginger OT 4 at best.

Overall, I think AP hit on a covered all types of dudes. The sensitive jock, the jock, the wanting to get laid dude, and the awkward guy. SB just focused on nerds and over the top punch lines.

On the contrary I think Superbad’s music is part of what makes it feel timeless vs American pie being extremely era specific

Love both but I think over the long haul American Pie is just the 90s Porkys and Superbad is closer to a Ferris Buehler in terms of cultural impact

American Pie was my generation so I will go with American Pie

Superbad was great but Jonah Hill is aggravating in it.

Superbad.

As someone that was a senior when American Pie came out, I should pick it. But I can’t.

I laughed way more at Superbad. So Superbad for me. Every character in it was funny.

American Pie had Stifler and Jason Biggs. And the Dad was funny. But I hated that little geek that was Tara Reid’s boyfriend. He was so annoying, And Oz was pretty dull. It just wasn’t that funny to me.

I’m too old to have a big attachment to either. I saw Superbad for the first time about a year ago. Thought it was pretty funny. Never saw American Pie. Worth a watch I guess?
