Final 4 topic on SECR got me thinking, what’s your favorite LSU Final 4 run?

Mine
Easily 1986 with Blanton, Vargas, Redden, Woodside, Williams, DT, Joe
First 11 seed to do it!

1986 has to be the one. Cinderella put on her shoes and put on a show

‘81 should have won it all. 2006, just because of DMitch 3 versus TAMU in 32 and Garrett shutting down JJ Redick.

Let me help you out here OP:
The LSU Tigers men's basketball team has made four appearances in the NCAA Tournament Final Four, specifically in the years 1953, 1981, 1986, and 2006.
I was only 7 in 1986 and that made me a fan of lsu basketball!. But 2006 is my answer.

That is a tough question.
I went to both elite 8’s and final 4’s in 81 and 86.
The Tigers to the top song was a huge thing but I have to say the unpredictable 11 seed getting to the final 4 by beating a team that beat them 3 times during the season and SEC Tournament by far was the sweetest.
I didn’t go to the 2006 games .

I just can’t believe it’s now been as long since 2006 happened as it was between 1986 and 2006.
Time flies when you get older. I remember in 2006 thinking that 1986 was impossibly long ago.

I’ve always said there should have been a 30 for 30 or SEC Special for that team in that season. Would have been good to see it this season.

2006 because I remember the run

It would be 1986 easily. You had to be there. It was a crazy, crazy season:
Jerry Reynolds turned pro before the season
Nikita Wilson academically ineligible
Tito Horford was here until he wasn't.
Chickenpox/quarantine
Blanton was a guard and had to play center
Luckily, the first two games were in the Assembly Center where LSU beat better teams, then somehow won their region over a great Kentucky team.
While it was SO improbable, the team really did have talent..and heart. Derrick Taylor and Anthony Wilson were a solid backcourt. Redden could shoot, and John Williams was an elite talent. Blanton did whatever needed to be done. It worked right up until the second half of the Louisville semi-final when the Tigers just ran out of steam.
1981 was probably our best team, but Rudy Macklin injured his finger and the Tigers lost to Isaiah Thomas' Hoosiers.
Strangely, for almost a decade, LSU lost in the tourney to the eventual champs:
1979 - Michigan State (Magic Johnson)
1980 - Louisville (Darrell Griffith)
1981 - Indiana (Isaiah)
1986 - Louisville - (Pervis Elison)
1987 - Indiana (Keith Smart and Steve Alford)

Well, for me it has to be 2006. Because I wasn’t born yet for any of the others.

I was at all three Final Fours during my lifetime. I was also at all three of the regional finals that put us in the Final Four, one in New Orleans and two in Atlanta. All were magical while they lasted.
My favorite - 1981.
The regionals in a wild and packed Superdome were off the charts, and I was an LSU student at the time. I am convinced we would have won had Macklin not hurt his hand.

That Sweet 16 game versus Eddie Sutton’s Arkansas team was unreal. That was an arse whipping they put on them that game. Sutton later became the UK coach and won a title, took the loss in the infamous 1986 run. I always said, for us to get to a final 4, we needed an Eddie Sutton coached team in our side of the bracket. Arkansas
Rudy hurt his hand versus Wichita State if I remember correctly. I was there for that run.
