Interior O line draft

If we are not able to get one of the top guards that we want, what would everyone think if we were able to get one of the top Centers in the draft like Brailsford or Connor Lew, Lew is a true Junior, started since midway through Freshman year and got Fr AA Fwiw, we obviously need another interior guy and need a long term answer at C.

When would you start looking to pick a G/C? I feel like other needs are more pressing after the free agent pickup. R3 would the absolute top for me.

Yeah I don’t think we should target a C this year with Ruiz still on the roster and McCoy in place.
Maybe next year

McCoy has played in just 14 games the past 2 seasons. If the Saints think it's just bad luck, then maybe Center isn't a priority target, but it shouldn't be totally discounted.
If the right player falls and is a good value, it shouldn't be off the table as McCoy is only under contract for 2026 and 2027 as of now (non-void years).

I agree with this line of thinking beginning in R3. I see too many more glaring need at positions of at least equal importance to go there before R3.

Personally, I think we should draft two OL in this draft and atleast one of them needs to be ready to start this year. I dont care if that's a G or C, but we need one ready to go.
McCoy is always hurt, Ruiz sucks and we lost our only decent backup to Carolina. Edwards was a nice signing, but we still need to replace the other two interior positions.
Round 3 is the latest i'd look for a starting OL.
Something like Delane, Bell and Dunker in 1,2 and 3 would be a dream draft imo. Resign Cam. All our main holes are filled, go BPA the rest of the way.

Deep iOL draft that includes some guys who are projected to do both

In some form or fashion we definitely should get a G/C because McCoy has been injury prone and as we know Ruiz is garbage. Whether a free agent or the 3rd round at the highest we need help there at least for depth n stability.

Hope we give Pat Coogan a look in the late rounds

Round 3-5, my thinking being he could either compete with Ruiz for Guard til McCoy is gone or until he's hurt again, McCoy will be hurt sometime this year. Brailsford or Lew could fall to us in 3-4. It would be great to have since Fortner left

I think Lew is much better prospect than Brailsford. I think Gulbin out of Mich St is another guy that could play multiple spots on the interior and be had in rounds 3-4.

Connor Lew could be gone before the 4th IMO and definitely before our 4ths. He can start at Center or Guard for several teams. He's essentially Cesar Ruiz for 1/10th the price and possibly better at Guard. He does come with a recent ACL tear which is why he may be considered late 3rd/ early 4th.
I wouldn't be suprised if we go DT/ DE in the 3rd with rumors of Downs/ Delane #8 and WR at #42. Looks like OL may be a late 4th rd pull.

I think if Lew is there in the 3rd we should take him, he's really young, taking a future stud C that can play Guard is worth the pick (LeCharles Bentley)there and alot bigger value than just a guard. He could start at C moving McCoy to G, or he could beat out Ruiz and start there til McCoy gets hurt then slide over to C. Losing Fortner makes this a big need, in this draft we can get a NG in the 4th

Just read the write up on Jager Burton, he could be another option, he's played all 3 interior spots, ran 4.94 40, 9'3" broad jump, 32.5 inch arms, RAS score of 9.93. I think taking a versatile C prospect is the way to go for us in this draft for our OL pick unless we wanna take 2 OL

I'd be surprised if we went dt if they're this high on Broughton.

I really like Chase Bisontis out of aTm and wouldn’t mind taking him with our second pick.
I like Logan Jones out of Iowa at center. He won the Rimington Trophy, was a unanimous All-American and 3 year team captain. Dude looks like a Steeler from the 70s already.
Beau Stephens, a RG out of Iowa, also had a really good year. Had some injuries the year before though.
I’m curious to see if they might look at taking a RT like Caleb Tiernan, Drew Shelton or Blake Miller and kicking Fuaga inside to RG.

I still think that the guard position should be one of the top priorities in the first 2 rounds. I doubt that they would take one in round 1 UNLESS THEY TRADE DOWN. But round 2 should be a must.
Get a top notch OG then you should be set on OL for the next 4 years at least.
So- lets say the Saints take Tate in round 1 and either Pregnon, or Bisontis in round 2- How does that sound? I don't think that Ioane will be there in round 2

IMO, only way Loane is still there in R2 is if a Tunsil type leak happens the day of the draft.
But, while OG needs to be at the top of the list for R2, assuming they don’t reach at 8, it should not be “a must”. Labeling it a must means they could be reaching if there is a run on OGs ahead of them, or settling if another top prospect drops to R2, as is the case every year

I still have high hopes for Torricelli Simpkins to take over for Ruiz.

As backup Center sure. I doubt that will happen at OG. On the depth chart we actually list Nick Saldiveri as backup OG behind Ruiz. Not sure if this is a depth strategy until we find a replacement or if we are seriously going to try him out. We wanted him to start at OT and that's not going to happen now so he could have a chance to outplay Ruiz.
Banks/ L Young
Edwards/ Radunz
McCoy/ Simpkins
Ruiz/ Saldiveri
Fuaga/
Landon Young is a FA but if we bring him back then he will probably be our best backup OT pending injuries and Saldiveri moving to OG.
The depth past those guys is tough to say the least:
LT: B Wesley
LG: E Kilty
C:
RG: W Sherman
RT: A Richards/ X Truss
If we add an OL in the 3rd or 4th we are pretty solid on depth with those 4 guys+ Radunz pending injuries of course.... We still don't know wtf Saldiveri/ Young can do because they can't get on the field.
