I’m going to trust Wade on this one but to advocate for jones the guy has coached for the last 20 years in Louisiana Dallas and Houston.

The traditional recruiting he did no longer exists. In basketball, you not only have the agents for NIL, but AAU and it’s politics and scumbag coaches and then the shoe and apparel companies and their NIL deals with HS players that often funnel them to programs that rep the same brands.
Jones has also been running a low major program for a few years and out of the major recruiting game. And he’s never been a good offensive or defensive scheme or game planing coach. His political connections are probably his only real value, but is that really worth one of 4 bench coach spots?
This feels very much like a political hire that Wade is being asked to make as a favor. If he’s ok with it then whatever.
