When Hubert Davis was only owed 5.3 million despite way more success

UNC didn’t have fat Scott handing out contracts like free candy

Fatty Scott's ignorance.

Fat Scott made one or two good hires if Kim counts. Probably all bad contracts. He probably got some kickbacks, lol.

People forget what a mess WW left. Taking on the job after that disaster required some inducements.

At a certain point you have to start to question it…..

It didn’t, Woodward made a bad hire with an even worse contract.

No doubt he was a crook, just look at the new arena costs and the group he wanted to build it. Criminals

Scott chose family in the ncaa over LSU, he also could have been getting some kick backs when you look at all his terrible contracts

Honestly it is either the epitome of arrogance OR he knew that the NCAA penalties would be minimal.
If he thought the sanctions would be crippiling then you go the john Brady route. Make the cheapest shortest hire you can to ride out sanctions and if it works great if not get someone new on the other side.
OR
He thought there was no way he could fail in identifying a winner so of course his hire would work thus no price or length is too much….

Because they promoted an alum assistant already on staff and got him very cheap at under 2 million/year
Considering the job he had, he was pretty damn bad. It’s not hard to win at UNC and he had one good season by their standards
McMahans buyout is 6.5 million. In 2026, that’s not exactly a big buyout
Still a bad hire but I don’t know why we’re acting like a 6.5 million buyout is huge with all the buyouts people are paying these days

Exactly, if he actually thought we were in trouble (he knew we weren’t) you just hire a cheap, culture builder type to install the style and discipline you want going forward. If he thought it was a home run he’s a complete idiot but I was told the hire was made based on a friendship he had with McMahon’s former coach, who also failed in the SEC at Tennessee prior to the Bruce Pearl hire. Can’t confirm that’s it but it does line up.

Who gives AF? I'm not paying it

Scona still says firing him was the wrong move…which is mind blowing
Posted on 3/26/26 at 6:57 pm to nicholastiger
Woodward only knew how to give out a ton of guaranteed money even to a guy who never coached major college basketball, probably because he made the job so undesirable after firing wade
