LSU probably negotiate the buyout so that NC State could start looking for a coach and not be behind the eight ball

NC State needed to get their ducks in a row too. They need a coach before the portal window opens so there was likely a settlement slightly more than 3 but less than 5. Maybe not, but that would be my assumption.

Give Wade a few extra days to get settled/get things established for when the portal opens. If we waited until 4/1, that's one hell of a quick turnaround for 4/7

Well they have these things called negotiation.
NC State had 3 options:
1. Lower buyout now allowing them to search for a coach before everyone is hired
2. Hold out on it and we pay them the April 1st number on April 1st and they are behind
3. Fire Wade for talking to us and then owing his buyout

They probably renegotiated to the new fee after April 1st
