The Trump administration will temporarily lift summer gasoline regulations as prices at the pump near $4 a gallon amid the Iran war.

The emergency fuel waiver allows refiners and retailers to sell E15 gasoline, which is blended with 15% ethanol, over the summer, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced Wednesday.

Restrictions on selling E10 gasoline, which contains 10% ethanol, will also be temporarily lifted, according to the agency. Normally, federal rules require a switch to more costly summer blends from June 1 through Sept. 15 because gas with higher ethanol content can evaporate more easily in hot weather, contributing to air pollution.

The waivers take effect on May 1 and will be in place through May 20.

The Trump administration has taken other steps to try to tame prices by boosting supply, including ordering the release of 173 million barrels of oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve, waiving the Jones Act to allow foreign ships to move fuel between U.S. ports, lifting Russian oil sanctions and other measures.

We will NOT be easing our regulations, in fact, we will increase them even further.

Shrinkflation at the gas pump
MPG going down

quote:

Shrinkflation on gasoline refers to the phenomenon where consumers pay the same or higher prices for less fuel

quote:

Energy Content (The "True" Cost): Because ethanol provides about 30% to 34% less energy per gallon than gasoline, consumers need to buy more ethanol to travel the same distance. When adjusting for this, ethanol is rarely cheaper than gasoline.

How much farmland is wasted on producing High Fructose Corn Syrup?

More than it should, but not nearly as much as is wasted in ethanol. I couldn't find a handy dandy graph that's more recent, but I can't imagine it's changed dramatically in five years:

I don't agree with using the strategic reserve to simply reduce every day gas prices. Didn't like it when Biden did it on a much larger scale either.

Isn't trying to fix a problem of your own making kind of the bare minimum a "leader" should do?

I’m surprised Trump hadn’t already permanently removed these regulations by EO

I proved this with hand calculations when I traveled a lot when I had my 2002 f150
