Place smells like cow shite . The basketball team should play there until they show signs of improving.

Went to a plant sell a few weeks back. It doesn’t seem like it’s been used in a while. It’s on the Historical Buildings list so I think it can’t be tore down. I used to love the rodeos and live stock shows.

My first Pistol Pete game. Pete was a freshman but freshman were not allowed to play varsity basketball then so there was a “freshman” game before the varsity game. Place was packed for the freshman game. Everybody came to see “Pistol Pete” play as a freshman. After the “freshman game” was over, the place practically emptied out and a sparse crowd stayed for the “varsity game”. Crazy.

It should be on an historical building list.
Never, ever tear it down!

I have been to a couple of the plant sales in there. Great place, lots of ghosts. Got a cold drink and went and sat in the stands and took it in for a few minutes.
IIRC, when Will Wade was here (oh boy here we go) it seemed like there was some preliminary talk of having a throwback game there but nothing ever came of it.

Do they still have Jam Jam?

Will Wade expressed interest in 2018 in playing a game there using throwback uniforms, according to an article in The Advocate. His idea was deemed a long shot due to major logistical hurdles, including safety, technology and traffic concerns associated with the older facility.

Fun times in the mid 80’s to mid 90’s for me. Couldn’t wait for the livestock shows to start to get off from school for a few days. The rodeo was always a treat!! Good times!!

Didn’t the 13th gate start there or was that in the barns next door? Could swear going to a haunted house there when I was at LSU.

You are correct, the 13th gate was in the livestock area behind the Parker coliseum. I think the very first year may have been in one of the old dormitories. I can't remember. I do remember going to a haunted house over in LSU in a three or four story dormitory but that's before it was the 13th gate. But you are correct. Real good friends with Saundra Lane who was a big part of the 13th gate as was Gerry Lane enterprises sponsoring and definitely the livestock area behind the coliseum was the original 13th gate

I did hear that the State livestock show is moving from Gonzales back to the LSU campus next year. So maybe it will be used for that and the rodeo. It used to be a nice event back in the day.

I talked to Wade after a game years ago about it and he said “ I love to but the logistics were too much”.

When I was a student went to a rodeo where you could sign up to ride a bull..... so... at least they did about 15 years ago
