I miss the old days of service providers having receptionists

who scheduled appointments. Electricians and plumbers can't communicate timely while working and conducting business via text message. And my physical therapist has a zoom check in/payment person. I am over it. And don't get me started on phone calls where you talk to ai and non monitored email addresses.

Get off my lawn!

Ain’t nobody got no money to be paying somebody just to sit around all day… they got apps for all that now

Talked to a damn AI on the phone the other day that paused and played key tapping sounds with an occasional “mnnhmm” thrown in like it was typing in my answers like a receptionist would. shite was fricking freaky.

Been needing a fridge repair and of the 3 companies contacted, non of them answered the phone. They either said leave a message and we will call back (they don't) or text this number or send an email here

I’ll rather talk to the people who will be doing the actual work anyway… that’s me though

I called Lowe's and the AI assistant said "she" could help me, rather than transfer me to the department I requested.

I was like "Bitch, you can't even get me to the right extension. How can you answer my questions about doors?"

Chronic ones

The therapist was highly recommended and very good. But that virtual third world assistant made me want to walk out.

I'm a plumber. My shop has a receptionist/secretary, whatever y'all want to call her. We're small, but it works great that way for coordinating calls, planning out extra man power, scheduling, etc.

When I'm on the job, I don't have the time to be fielding calls from homeowners about future jobs or whatever issues you're currently experiencing. I'm in the middle of a project, it's just not the time for that. I'm busy. Which is why I agree with the OP.

However, to your point, this is why I like to call the homeowner before coming out, to get a better scope of what the issue might be and to help me better prepare what tools/machinery/material I might need based on your information to help save time and expedite things. And yeah, sometimes it helps to just be mentally prepared walking in the door for a shite show.

More often than not, homeowners don't have a clue though and feed misinformation, unintentionally of course, but my point is you can only guess what the real issue is until you get on site and see what's really going on.

As for the complaints ITT about y'all reaching out to tradesmen who don't get back to you, I can't speak for them. Its very unprofessional IMO. Communication is big in this business and I know homeowners appreciate it. You just can't always drop what you're doing to answer texts or calls, but you always call back. At least I do. Whether I want the job or not, I call back.

My parents own a little ebay store and they are not computer savvy at all (they are both over 70 and having a blast going to yard sales and picking out stuff to sell in their store. It has turned into a huge active hobby for them which is great for their age and they are earning a little income on the side.

Enough of that.. They were having a technical issue with their ebay so they called me to see if I could help. I had to call ebay

That was probably the worst 1:18 (one hour, eighteen) minutes of my life (not literally but you know what I mean) . Nobody could understand English and I could not understand them. I had to tell one girl that I could not understand her and to please get an English speaking person on the phone.... the person she transferred me to was worse

Customer service in this country is a fricking disaster because of foreign people.

I talked to a live operator at a local hospital the other day. Wish it was AI. I do not know who hired this woman, but that person should be fired first, then her.
