State of Georgia getting creative to avoid changing time and being on DST

Georgia State Senate passed the Georgia Sunshine Protection Act, which would ask the US Secretary of Transportation to move Georgia into the Atlantic time zone, and then Georgia would opt of out daylight savings, which is allowed under the current US laws, whereas just staying in DST is not allowed under US laws. Quite the unique work around.

That won't be confusing at all.

Yea, it would certainly be very weird considering where we are located, however, our Southern and Northern neighbors are both states that have 2 time zones in them…..
Just thought it was creative since we can’t keep the clocks the same on DST without the US Congress doing something about it first

I suppose it’s creative in a “this is so absurd that no one has ever tried it before” kind of way

So what happens with the Eastern time zone?
It would just bypass Georgia?
It would just bypass Georgia?

We would be an hour ahead of Eeastern Standard time, but on the same time as Eastern during DST, it just wouldn’t be called DST in Georgia. It would be like Arizona where half the year they are on the same time and half not.

If we take away time change then what will politicians pander to us about changing when they get in office?

What’s wrong with daylight savings that we’re trying to change it?

This is so stupid. Would be the easiest bipartisan bill to ever get through Congress but they have zero interest in considering it. So we have a state trying to move into an obscure time zone to work around this dumb arse rule.

Florida already proposed this exact thing in 2018 and it didn't pass because it was stupid.
No way it will be allowed with the Atlanta airport being the busiest in the US. It would make everything incredibly confusing.

Except it’s only 4 months in sync. We only do standard time for 4 months. So that is allowed, but not the time that we spend the majority of the year. It makes zero sense, while the time changing arbitrarily is a huge adjustment for humans to process twice a year.

And while they're at it have the US Secretary of Transportation move then out of the SEC.

Yeah it would just be weird with Georgia the same time as EDT for about 8 months.. then when Eastern goes to Standard Georgia alone doesn't fall back and they're now an hour ahead.

How is this going to affect flight scheduling in Atlanta?

Georgia going to the Atlantic Time Zone is like UCLA and USC being in the Big Ten.

Without daylights savings time we’ll eventually lose a whole day

This is what I always thought, and then I was blown away by how many people on this board are in opposition to that.
