Saw the tweet referenced on my feed as well. Seems the newer generation also prefers the March Madness branding bracket style courts they've had for the last decade or so over the host floors remaining untouched. New gen complaint was the unchanged courts had no big time tournament feel to them.

That’s rich coming from Big Cat. Him and PFT have made a career off catering to sports nostalgia.

Their whole Chris Berman bit they do for starters.

But alas I realize they need clicks and throw out hot takes just to get people talking. This is essentially Ryan Clark saying leave politics out of sports though.

I disagree with him. The courts now suck. It's just way too damn corporate now

The new courts are just busy as frick and weird to look at, especially with all the extra tv graphics thrown on them.

He’s trying to wrap it all into one. Nobody said it sucks being able to watch every game. Nobody said it sucks to submit brackets online. Why even mention that?

It's kind of an ironic take considering that his show used to be better in the past.

This. The various host courts gave each site its own character. As soon as you turned on a game, you knew where they were.

I know the new courts have the host city by the scorer's table, and tiny logos for the host school/conference in the corners, but they otherwise look the same. The opening weekend games all begin to run together, at least for me.

I’m sure big cat has nostalgia when he was a die hard patriots and Red Sox fan growing up in Newton MA until he turned into a die hard Chicago sports lifer to blog for portnoy.

The thing is that was an unnecessary sterilization. Just like Super Bowl logos and the like. Nobody was clamoring for it. There’s no impact on the game.

that and their initial shtick was satirizing national sports media and now that’s just what they are

Most national media figures are insufferable chodes. They sit in their man cave and play video games all day.

What do you mean by that...how is it "way too corporate"?

Do you not remember players slipping all over the logos they'd put down on the home courts?

Its still satire. I dont listen as much as I used to but PMT still has great interviews and their recaps of the days sports are normally funny.

Of course there will always be pushback against anything popular

That's their intention. It's all about the branding of the tourney and not the school. Everything has gone this way now. It's down to all the teams having the same shirts that all say "Lock it in" and have no soul of the actual school. Every sport has gone this way with branding controlled by whatever clothing manufacturer has the contract. It's the same with MLB all saying the same thing in the playoffs as well. Not allowing anything besides the color and a single logo of the school has stolen their souls and made it all look the same like it's just Nike.

Remember when someone at the school designed or at least approved it? You had variety. It's all gone with national branding.
