- The post features bodycam footage from a December 2025 Brazilian police raid in Macaé, Rio de Janeiro, exposing a hidden room with over 300 cell phones mounted on walls and ceilings to artificially inflate YouTube video views, primarily for music monetization.
- This "view farm" operation, which evaded detection for months, highlights the scale of fake engagement fraud; a 2022 peer-reviewed study in the Journal of Economic Perspectives estimated such bots distort up to 15% of global online traffic, eroding trust in digital metrics.

Not even sure how this is illegal. Who gives a shite. All this does is protect the pocketbook of tech billionaires. Not sure why we are expending resources as a society to prosecute this.

You should be annoyed that algorithms are manipulated to show you stuff based off this instead of organic activity. You really dont see the downstream issues with these operations?

And he should be more annoyed that this is pretty clearly AI but he fell for it.

I always see these videos in my feed that were submitted within the last few days and already have tens of thousands of views and zero comments. Usually an AI voice over in those. I've always been suspicious of the view counts. I have a small YT page for my music but just let the views come organically. I don't promote my page and what views I get I'm happy with. I do feel for those that use YT and other platforms as an honest side hustle and have to spend a large portion of their time promoting their product or brand against a scam like this.

Without even realizing this is AI, you should have known this was fake simply by asking yourself why Brazil would care about this?

So they inflated the views of the superbowl halftime. Makes sense
