Who on this site was at the LSU versus Wichita State game 45 years ago to the date on a Sunday down in the Superdome when we defeated Wichita State to make it to one of our first final fours. that weekend I was down there the Friday night when we walloped Arkansas and Eddie Sutton paying them back for one of our only losses early in the season and then getting Wichita State on that Sunday. What a day to remember. some great basketball dates back then. Even if Dale Brown wasn't the greatest of coach, he was a salesman and he did bring some excitement to LSU basketball at one time. Go Tigers. Just curious as to who was all there 45 years ago to the date and on a Sunday

I’m pretty sure LSU lost to eventual national champions in each final 4 appearance. Yes they lost but I wouldn’t say they choked. They got beat but took us for an amazing ride.
Hope one day we’re playing for it all again.
I was in the dome when they cut down the nets that day.

Fail
The last one was against 2006 against UCLA. We got our asses completely whipped, and then UCLA got their asses completely whipped by Florida in the championship game right after.

Well that is because Tyrus Thomas was told by his representatives to shut it down and not get hurt (allegedly).

No Brady tried to show his arse and challenged Tyrus either about rebounding or shot selection, I can’t remember which and Tyrus talked back so Brady benched him

No, big baby and everyone selfishly thought the night before was a great spot to get higher than high instead of doing what normal top level athletes do.
And it was apparent from the tip off.

I was there.
NY Times original newspaper article

With Durand Macklin, their captain and leading scorer, in the locker room with an injured finger for most of the second half, Louisiana State maintained a large lead and beat Wichita State, 96-85, today in the Midwest regional final to earn a place in the Final Four of the National Collegiate Athletic Association basketball tournament.
The left-handed Macklin, who scored 17 of his 21 points in the first half when the Tigers overwhelmed the Shockers, suffered a dislocated finger and required three stiches in his right hand. He sat out 12 minutes of the second half, first with leg cramps and then with the finger injury, but expected to be fit to play next weekend in Philadelphia.
According to Dale Brown, coach of the 31-3 Tigers, the L.S.U. squad set five goals at a team meeting early in the season: to better last year's 26-6 record, to win the Southeast Conference title, to receive an N.C.A.A. bid, to make the Final Four and to win a national championship.
''This is the happiest day of my athletic career,'' Brown said, with all but one of the goals met so far, ''but I'm not totally fulfilled yet. We hope we're not done and we think we have an outstanding chance of being the 1981 national champions.''

I was at both the Arkansas game and the Wichita game. What a great memory. That was the best LSU team of all time.
Not necessarily from a talent perspective - none of those players went on to be great NBA players. But that blend of experience and of a team who had defined roles that complemented one another so well - this was the best 6 players with Macklin, Martin, Mitchell, Cook, Carter and Sims that we ever had.
4 of those 6 had been playing together for four years and Carter and Mitchell complimented that experience with special talents that made that team great.

Drove to NO with a buddy. Our seats were ALL the way up and we looked at the floor and people looked like ants. Got in my car and drove back to BR and watched the game on TV.
Not sure why we didn’t just find a local bar to watch and not drive all the way back to BR.

I was there in TGBFTL Basketball Band.
Instead of just walking in to our seats, we marched into the Suoerdome playing the Bleu Raeders cadence, just like when we marched to Tiger Stadium on football Game Days!

We were a well below avg offensive team who had trouble handling the ball. UCLA was a very good defensive team who had the size to neutralize our front court and overwhelm our guards. It was a total mismatch and we got whipped. It was a defensive team vs a defensive teams who was much better coached on the offensive end.

We may or may not have been interior.
We got whipped because the stars in that team decided to get high and not take it seriously.
And that's fine. Their team, their choice, their legacy. Losers who choose themselves over team, school & community.

I was there. When we won Dale Brown jumped so high as he was leaving the floor of the Super Dome. I was also at the game in Philly when we lost to Indiana. The game of two halves. The first half we were incredible. The second half it was Invasion of the Body Snatchers took over our team.

Thanks for all the replies my tiger brothers. So glad to see so many of you. That post here was there with me at both games that Friday night game where we flat got after Arkansas and then the Wichita State game. I think one time I remember. I think it was Tyrone black turned around and had a clear way to go and just stuffed it right through that. Superdome went crazy. What a great time it was. I think that was during the Wichita State game. But thank you all for responding. Glad to know we were all tiger Brothers together. Go Tigers!

LSU basketball has never actually played for it all to be able to say again. I just hope one day before I die that I can witness LSU men’s basketball at least playing in the National Championship game.
