Honest question. What can he do that he hasn't tried at this point?

The HS class got hammered. They missed on some portal guys that looked promising.

They've shuffled the lineup. He's given plenty of arms opportunities. He's played the young guys.

I get it, the buck stops with the HC but shite, what more can he do?

Take the team to the batting cages at Celebration Station for a change of scenery

Honestly all he can do is practice the shite of them & work with each guy individually on where they are lacking
They have to be mentally ready, no one can do that for them

Kinda the point of the post. What part of "his job" can he do at this point? He's throwing everything at the wall to see what sticks. Nothing is.

Stop subbing Ruckert as a defensive replacement for the immediate future, lol.

Hire a hitting coach and quit leaving Guidry in when everyone knows he was done

We have guys who are veterans in this program who aren't having as good of a year as they had last year. Softball's two best hitters from last year also are way below what they did last year.

Skip once explained this very simply. He basically said that sometimes, for no reason, players just don't have good years. It doesnt mean they aren't trying. It doesnt mean they aren't being coached. shite happens.

That is so simple, but it stuck with me all these years. If anyone but Skip said it, I would think it is bulkshit. But when Skip spoke, it was usually a good idea to listen.

Quit micromanaging this team. All the shifts and some of his decision have not been successful, but it all started when his portal players just did not work out
York has been a disaster.

He will make lemonade with a few lemons. I disagreed with keeping a pitcher in too long that was obviously having trouble with the strike zone while LSU had the lead.

Fans can disagree with individual decisions and results for the team but the coach has a proven record.

Things may not go how fans, the coaches, and the players want at this time and so expectations need to be managed.

Honestly, the defense looks like a slow train wreck. I’m going to continue to watch and hope to see some progress in the near future.

At the end of the day, LSU truly has another legendary baseball coach. Only time will tell if this incarnation of the team will improve.

We missed on infield talent, you can make up for that offensively and defensively. Play the young kids and lets see what we have for next year.

The sky isn’t falling. We haven’t played well, but you just gotta keep playing and work on everything, as I’m sure they will as he always does because he knows what he’s doing.

We could just as easily be 4-2 instead of 2-4. Not a great start, but there’s 24 SEC games left, so certainly no need to panic yet.

I’m not sure what answers you are looking for with this question. In reality this team probably isn’t good enough to contend for a national championship. It is what it is. But Jay’s job is to develop players and win games. He can still do both of those things even if this team isn’t good enough to win a championship. He will continue to help guys get better and hopefully play the guys that give LSU the best chance to win each day.

They can improve a lot in the field

They also seem to have little plate discipline

Lack of talent is a huge issue but coaches are more than talent identifiers.

Now? Fair. Going into today you still don't have anyone established there. He fricked up last weekend but you're gonna give a guy like that another shot. Going forward though you can't.

I generally don't like it, but this team isn't good defensively. Generally, the shift puts them in a better alignment to mask some of that. When it works, nobody says a thing. When it doesn't, it's "a huge issue".

There is some truth here but his hand was kinda forced. The portal largely sucked this year.

I go back to the OP though, what can he do at this point? We gave up 9 runs at home and lost the series to #8. He's experimented a ton and it isn't working.
