The Birds (1963) wiki

quote:

The Birds is a 1963 American natural horror film produced and directed by Alfred Hitchcock, released by Universal Pictures and starring Rod Taylor, Jessica Tandy, Suzanne Pleshette, and introducing Tippi Hedren in her film debut. Loosely based on the 1952 short story of the same name by Daphne du Maurier, it focuses on a series of sudden and unexplained violent bird attacks on the people of Bodega Bay, California, over the course of a few days. The screenplay is by Evan Hunter, who was told by Hitchcock to develop new characters and a more elaborate plot while keeping du Maurier's title and concept of unexplained bird attacks.
Is this the short story you are talking about. Are you asking about a remake of it?

If the birds, in The Birds, are done in CGI, then no.

The movie really has nothing to do with the short story other than birds. The short story is great. Not that the movie isn’t as well. But they are different

No. There is an actual short story.

The story is true horror. Takes place in England. Never mind. here is the link.

Great novella and great movie. Du Maurier and Hitchcock made a great combo. The Birds is probably my favorite movie he made out of her work but Rebecca is probably the best book.

No remake of The Birds could come close to recreating the foreboding terror of Hitchcock's The Birds.

Read the short story. A good director could do quite a bit with that material while staying true to book.

Watch Birdemic. Takes the killer bird genre to a new level.

You may be right about that but Hitchcock's version of The Birds is so ingrained in my mind I don't know if I could enjoy another version as much even if it's truer to the book.

What works for the short story is the lack of communication from authorities. They only get a couple of broadcasts then the BBC goes off the air. They hear planes but then they all crash after the birds attack them. It appears in the novella the birds are close to wiping out civilization at least in Britain.

“Rebecca” the movie was great, as was the book.
Dumaurier also wrote “Don’t Look Now”which is a wonderfully creepy movie. Highly recommended…
