What are some of the best WMA'a/public land spots to turkey hunt in Louisiana and what are the rules/regulations of that area - season shorter/have to draw, etc.?

The first rule of public land turkey hunting is you don’t talk about public land turkey hunting.

Almost all of the turkeys in Louisiana died. The 2025 snowstorm and 2021 ice storm finished off most of the ones that didn't perish in the 2016 flood. Terrible thing.

Fisherman: had a great day fishing grass points in biloxi marsh, they hit a chartreuse doa under a cork

Deer hunters: had a good year in the eastern part of the state

Turkey hunters: heard there was a bird over way

Lacassine NWR...

Just kidding. Honestly, getting someone to tell you the best public land for turkey hunting on a public forum is unlikely to happen. Just for numbers there are approx. 22k turkey hunters in LA and 40-50k turkeys of which maybe a quarter are legal gobblers. So 22k hunters chasing 10-15k legal birds.

My best suggestion would be go to the closest public land near you during early morning or late evening and listen for gobbling or walk the roads looking for tracks and other sign.

First rule of fight club is dont speak of fight club.

Then again, i understand wanting to get into Turkey Hunting. My dad did not like it - and had to kind of get into it myself through public land.

If you're in BR there are some places near you that you can go try... and i mean it "try." for every one bird you hear there will be 10 hunters and every track you see will be 5 people.

you can try sandyhallow, sherburne, bogue chitto wma, tunica, kissatchie. Birds are killed at them every year, although in very very low numbers.

You have 21 post and you gonna ask for a turkey spot!!!
If your post count was 30k annd you had been here for 20 yrs and you were 70yr old and just found out you had 3 weeks to live you might would get some help on locating a bird.

That’s what I’m going to use on tenfoe when my grandson is old enough. He’s big mad at them.

You can find everything you need on LDWF website. Pick the closest place to you that has an open turkey season and get out there. If there is an open season, there are turkeys to be killed. Just know there are way more turkey hunters than there are turkeys, and it ain’t for the weak. That’s about the best info you’re going to get.

If you’re disappointed in the replies to your post, prepare to be way more disappointed with public land turkey hunting in Louisiana

Hunting anything on public land in louisiana is not for the weak.

This is the most competitive place to do it
