Anybody else find that St Pattys day has come/gone the last few years without much hype?

Maybe I’m too old to get into it as I did when I was younger but I feel like it was much more of a big deal when I was younger. Same with the upcoming Cinco De Mayo. Even Valentine’s Day. Many of these celebratory days just come and go now with little fanfare.

You are not letting frivolous capitalism win. Good for you.

Imagine that, you get older and the binge drinking holidays aren't as important to you as you have more responsibility in life

I think it's two things.

1- as you said, getting older just changes shite. In college we'd get hammered for literally any holiday, real or fake, that may have presented itself. Not quite the same when you're 40

2- a lot of the ones you mention have no actual, real life meaning to people other than partying. Like yeah I undersatnd that St. Patricks and cinco have historical meaning behind them, but for your average John Q. Drunkard living in america it's simply an excuse to get shitfaced. And to tie back into point 1, that starts to lose it's appeal a bit when you're a grown adult with a family adn a johb and oh yeah it's a fricking tuesday.

What do you want? A month long celebration? I mean who does that?

I feel like when it's later in the week and squares up with the NCAA tournament and nice weather, people kind of do a two for one.

The shadow war on drinking has affected more than people think. It's hard to hype up some of these events when you're not bombed, and a lot less people get bombed these days.

I mean I think when you're in your 20s and at the height of getting shitfaced on the regular, it's a top holiday.

That said, they do a big parade here in Louisville and it was incredibly busy this year with some nicer weather (they do it the weekend before St. Patricks Day). Our local Irish bars/pubs also still have a good crowd for their stuff. People aren't drinking as much as whole but I still see plenty of folks celebrating (and advertising it).

Not for me. I didn't go, but all of my friends either [a] work in the overpass/Perkins Rd bars or [b] are drinkers in those bars.. so my text messages, social media, etc. was 100% parade day related for like 2-3 days.

I went out in the area Saturday night, and everywhere was SLAMMED with drunk parade goers. Definitely not dead.

On a personal level: I don't do Wearin of the Green parade, Cinco de Mayo, or Valentine's Day dinner out. Did them so many times in my young years, and while I still make my rounds on normal days, I cannot stand nights out with thousands of hammered people who have no idea how to control themselves.

You're getting older.

Young people don't give a shite about the holiday, they want a reason to get hammered.

If you really want a mindfrick, spend christmas away from your family. My wife and I spent 5 Christmases by ourselves, and you'd be surprised just how little the holiday affects you without family around.

It's nice. It's nicer to be around family as long as it isn't full of drama.

This past weekend was filled with stuff for St. Pat's with good turnouts, even here in Shreveport. It looked like the parade in Baton Rouge was amazing from the videos I saw. Don't let the Debbie Downers fool you, people absolutely still love a good time for every reason and holiday.

Yeah dude, the older you get and the importance of your job is priority its not St. Patty's....its just a Tuesday.

I think its celebrated the same as always in a certain age bracket...just not by you.

The Germans. Frohe Oktoberfest!

But to answer the OP, yeah, St. Patrick's Day has simmered down a bit in recent years. I'm in my early 50s and remember it being a much bigger thing even less than 15 years ago. As with everything else that's changed these days, I blame COVID. 2020 sure fricked this country.
