Even in CJJ’s 2 non-national title seasons

This team has made a regional and was playing their best at the right time. Went on an SECT heater in ‘24 when we needed it. Went on the road as a 2 seed in a regional both years and pushed the host teams to the limit in winner-take-all games.
We don’t know exactly what lies ahead. May be more frustrations and tough weekends on the way. Maybe lose another midweek or two. But 13 SEC regular season wins will be enough, as long as we don’t lose like 5 more midweeks. We can lose SIX more series 1-2 and still make regionals, as long as we win three series 2-1. Do that and we’ll be the 2/3 seed that NOBODY wants to play in regionals.
Yes, this weekend wasn’t good, and Sac State weekend was even worse, but it’s going to take a lot more losses for me to throw in the towel on this team.

I am taking it for what is, entertainment. I will enjoy the wins and won't sweat the losses.

People forget Maineiri's last season, in 2021. An underperforming team all season actually won a regional on the road -- in chilly, damp Eugene, Oregon, and swept the Ducks in a doubleheader. That was a surprising result imo given the subpar effort by the team much of the year. I didn't even think the Tigers would make a regional, finishing 13-17 in the conference and then one-and-done in the SEC tourney losing to Georgia.
O, and that team started out very poorly in SEC play-- losing 2 of 3 to Miss St, getting swept at Tennessee, getting swept at Kentucky to go to 1-8 out of the gate. There was also a 23-7 obliterating vs Oral Roberts in there somewhere

Jay has 100% earned the right to have a shitty season.

If Jay Johnson gets this team to 16 wins in the SEC, it will be by far his most impressive coaching job.

It was vandy, not kentucky. But we did start 1-8

Prepare to be let down. Those teams had dogs, this one does not.

I'm willing to accept a down season, just be competitive. But I think it will improve. Maybe win a regional. It's just our expectations are high after last season and then the high rankings. Sometimes it's good to get knocked down a peg or two. Are they going to fight back or just think that they aren't as good as they thought they were and continue to be mediocre. It's a test of a teams make up for sure.

Not hosting a regional is a failure of a season at LSU. We can’t let our standards slip to where we are just ok with going on the road and playing in someone else’s regional
LSU should be a top 16 seed every single season
LSU should be a top 16 seed every single season

Baseball is baseball, plenty of teams at all levels start slow and win it all. Wild cards in the MLB on a hot streak go deep in the playoffs all the time. Lots of games left and we have the right coach for the job. We’ll be fine…

So if we don't host a regional, but make it to Omaha the season was a failure?

Not sure when it became controversial to say that LSU should be a top 16 seed and at least hot a regional every single season

You do have some positive directional forces working in your direction. Jay tends to have his teams playing their best at the right time, and a lot of these guys are inexperienced or young. The more games they play, the better. But no guarantees.

Basing the success/failure of a season on that one single metric is.

This is exactly how everyone who doesn’t work directly in the LSU baseball building should feel about it

But odds are he won't. He cares too much.
