Do you collect Vinyl‘s?

quote:

Vinyl‘s resurgence has reached a new milestone, as vinyl revenue surpassed $1 billion in revenue in the United States in 2025, the RIAA reported in its annual year-end report published on Monday.

Overall, vinyl sales grew about 9.3 percent year over year, the RIAA said, with overall units sold rising from 43.4 million to 46.8 million. That’s a sharp contrast to other legacy listening formats like CDs and digital downloads, whose revenues dropped by 7.8 percent and .8 percent, respectively. And while some record store owners and collectors have expressed concern about vinyl getting consistently more expensive — the average price of a mint vinyl record grew 24 percent to $37.22 from 2020 to 2025, per Discogs — so far, the data shows that hasn’t lead to waning demand yet.

The vinyl boom started in the late 2000s as a more niche trend among audiofiles and indieheads, with alt-rock figures like Jack White serving as early trailblazers evangelizing the format. Today, it’s a mainstream hobby carried by mainstream pop; Taylor Swift in particular has had the top-selling vinyl album in the country for the last four years. Swift’s The Life of a Showgirl was by far the best-selling vinyl album in the country last year, selling 1.6 million copies in 2025 according to Luminate, with Sabrina Carpenter’s Man’s Best Friend in second with 292,000. Kendrick Lamar’s GNX came in third with 279,000, Carpenter’s Short n’ Sweet had 262,000 and Billie Eilish’s Hit Me Hard and Soft rounded out the top 5 with 192,000.

News Flash: They are still recorded digitally. So people who think they are being "so retro", just buy it on CD where you can get a better stereo system to listen to it. And I hope CDs eventually start passing up streaming because people make music today to be listened to on headphones and Bluetooth speakers. A lot of highs in the sound.

Could spawn a resurgence in matchbooks.

Yes I have quite a few. I inherited my great uncle's player and have my dad's stereo deck. I love listening to the Allman Brothers, Lynyrd Skynyrd (frick idk how to spell it), and CCR on vinyl.

Yeah, I have a collection of about 80 vinyls. I enjoy collecting music I really like. Nice to have tangible things.

I've got a bunch of vinyls. Not audiophile level by any means, but I do like listening to albums on my turntable.

This. Who the heck would by Taylor Slow on vinyl??? It's a digital recording of very mediocre music pressed into vinyl. Then you play it 200 times and the record loses its sharpness anyway. Its also a safe bet that most Swifties are utterly clueless about storing records correctly (vertically, in the sleeve and cardboard, no sun exposure, climate control) so that they dont prematurely degrade.

No.

I get music off iTunes and I’m fine with that.

I can play that through my truck or at home off Bluetooth speakers.

No need to collect vinyls

I buy probably 10-15 new vinyls a year. I love the way they sound on my system and the whole experience of getting up to flip the record is fun to me and my wife.

Kids are asleep, we just cooked and ate a good dinner, dim the lights, make a cocktail and pick out a record and play it while relaxing.

That's a good night.

ETA:

I'm no audiophile either, I just like the sound of vinyl. I like the imperfections in older ones especially if they aren't really harming the sound.
