The BREC Planning and Park Resources Advisory Committee will meet on Tuesday to discuss multiple items, including updates on developments for City-Brooks Community Park and plans to close eight other parks in Baton Rouge.
quote:

The parks are being closed as they are considered obsolete and no longer needed for public purposes, with the properties being sold at various amounts ranging from $700,000 to $6,000. The parks being closed include Alexander Street Park, being sold for $550,000, Belfair Park, Blueberry Street Park, Fortune Addition Park, Wenonah Street Park, Dover Street Park, Lanier Drive Park and Sharon Hills Park.
The committee will also give an update on City-Brooks Community Park. BREC previously asked the community for feedback regarding recommendations for developments at the park and nearby University Lakes.
quote:

The ongoing revitalization project will be led by BREC and design firm Sasaki, guided by an 11-member advisory committee of stakeholders from BREC and local organizations and institutions.

Sharon Hills Park

That's the park which has the Hooper Road Mountain biking trails.

Alexander Street Park

That's near Turner Industries in the vacated neighborhoods by Exxon.

quote:

Belfair Park

The actual "midnight basketball" spot off Fairfields.

quote:

Blueberry Street Park

Another basketball gym at Ardenwood and Greenwell Springs. Just remodeled in 2020

quote:

Fortune Addition Park

Between Zion City and Glen Oaks. No one will miss that walking path.

The Comite River park has the mtn bike trails. There was a connector but Im not certain trails were kept up at Sharon Hills.

Alexander Street Park

I-110 @ Hwy 190, west side of I-110.

quote:

Belfair Park

Looks to just be a facility building across the skeet from Belfair Montessori Magnet. Midnight basketball?

quote:

Blueberry Street Park

Rec center, a couple of basketball courts and some green area. Looooooots of vacant plots nearby (just off North Ardenwood below G-springs). It wouldn't suprise me to see this get bought by whoever has bought a lot of those empty lots to build a Section 8 neighborhood or apartment complex.

quote:

Fortune Addition Park

A good sized lot, mostly green space with a couple of basketball courts. In between Ford and Glen Oaks (read" "Plank Road area").

quote:

Wenonah Street Park

If it's where I think it is, it looks like it was abandoned years ago and just kept mowed (between Plank & I-110, just north of Choctaw).

quote:

Dover Street Park

Another NBR park, looks to be a small green area with a small concrete walking circle.

quote:

Lanier Drive Park

A good-sized green area with a basketball court, north of Greenwell Springs.

quote:

Sharon Hills Park

I think this is the Hooper Road Park. This one is a bit of a surprise as it's large, with soccer and baseball/softball fields, a public restroom setup, a play area for small kids and a decent-sized facilities building. It's well-maintained with lots of woods surrounding it on most sides.

Drive Sharon HIlls all the way to the back of the neighborhood and turn right. Park is at the end of that street.

There were once parks on both sides of Hooper Road for mountain biking. I think BREC just combined the two parks and called it Hooper Road Park.

That St. George tax money was paying to keep these parks (that nobody but drug addicts and prostitutes use) open so the BREC landscape crews would have something to do besides ride around all day in BREC trucks.

I’ll miss some of the BREC golf courses that I played in the late eighties to early nineties.
