Should not have counted as HBP per rules IMO. She stepped into it.

Would love for you to take a softball off the knee cap at 70mph from 37 feet away.

She did. It may have hit her anyway, but she did step to put her foot in the path of the ball.

Aren't you supposed to make an effort to move out of the way?

She clearly did. Shouldn’t have been allowed in my opinion.

I think she did, but I’m not sure that step was necessary.

Should have been a ball, rules say you have to make an effort to avoid getting hit by the pitch.. that's generally ignored on a legit pitch because reaction time is so much less, but she had all day.

ETA: Assuming softball has similar rules to baseball.

you don't have to try to get out of the way anymore in college baseball, but you can't intentionally try to get hit by the pitch. You're allowed to stand your ground. If you lean into it, it's an automatic strike even if the pitch is out of the zone

I would’ve put a fastball square in the back of the next girl.

Ironically, because she intentionally moved into it, it should have been waved off.

You probably want that beast to stay at bat.

The LSU announcers definitely didn't get this memo then. This was reviewed one of the recent games and they thought the batter had to make an effort to avoid getting hit.

It's never really been called that way, though.

You either misheard or they were wrong.

Yes it has. Ever since the rule change it’s exactly how it’s been called. You just can’t make an effort to get hit but you have no duty to avoid getting hit. As an LSU fan you should be well aware of this because Jay Johnson coaches guys to wear pitches and stand there if the ball is coming below the neck or above the knee.
