This is all hypothetical of course. Single car accident. Front end damage with initial estimate of $3000 to fix. The car's value was approximately $10k before the accident. I wonder how much the insurance will go up for someone with an otherwise very clean driving record.

It's gonna be more once they start taking things apart.

You need to tell us what you ran into and how

I bought my wife a new car for mothers day last year, the first week she had it she was driving to work and some construction material flew off a truck in front of her and did about $3k worth of cosmetic damage, my insurance agent advised to pay out of pocket, his reason was that type of claim, if the insurer did an audit, would jack up the premium almost as bad as getting a DUI, don't don't if that's true but I've been using him for 20 years and he's done a pretty good job for me

How drunk were you to get into a single car accident ?

ETA: does it still run? Is it an Altima by chance. Bumpers and headlights are optional

Missing a lot of info here.

Let’s start with “single vehicle accident.” Is this you hitting a pole, building, wall, etc. or is it you hitting an animal? If it’s an animal
It could be a different answer because it would be a comp claim.

How old are you? What are the ages and driving records of others in your household? That can also play into a rate increase.

As someone else mentioned, preliminary estimates always go up especially after tear down You can still file a claim after tear down if you have a reputable carrier, but it will be a huge PITA.

Baw saved the insurance company $2,500 and himself from some paperwork.

I would have a lot of questions about this. Using insurance for the actual shite you get insurance for makes your rate as high as a known drunk driver? That logic is the kind of shite that makes people hate insurance companies.

Hypothetically, the car hydroplaned into a ditch. Front bumper came off and the AC condenser is bent to hell.

ETA: the car is still driveable but seems out of alignment.

You need a new agent because that's a comprehensive claim all day and should not affect your rates at all.

The crux here is if you don’t have any accidents you will now lose your accident or climbs free discount. That cost more than the accident surcharge. If you have more than 1 vehicle it’ll cost you in the long run.

I get the whole that is what insurance is for argument but if it costs you a good deal more over 3-5 years then pragmatic people will understand.

The flip side to that is companies shouldn’t give discounts for being claims free or accident free cause that is what truly drives up the price after thr first accident. Your second accident is way cheaper

If this doesn't encapsulate how fricked up the LA car insurance market is, I don't know what does

You almost certainly pay a premium far higher than the national average for your coverage

And then when you actually need to utilize the service you have grossly overpaid for, you have to be worried if the insurance company will ultimately penalize you for having the audacity to file a claim

Ridiculous all the way around

My deductible is $1k, so I'd probably just pay it.

Not sure how bad that type of accident would affect your overall rates...

I’d have tried to go after that construction company. I hate driving behind trucks that have ladders, etc. hanging over.

This should have been covered by comprehensive, and not affected your policy at all

I carry pretty high deductibles because we don't get tickets and rarely have to file claims, the agent didn't just throw it out there trying to save himself some work, or the underwriter money, his explanation was satisfory to me and I went with his advice, it really wasn't any big deal

Front bumper cover, or the metal bumper itself?

It took a pretty good lick if it got into the condenser. Radiator support bent?

Have a good shop do a 4 wheel alignment and see how it drives after.

Id file a claim. You may have additional damages that will won’t be able to be identified until the car is disassembled. You’d also have a rental if you went thru insurance.

The plastic bumper

The condenser is in front of the radiator and is bent inwards and upwards. It doesn't seem to be leaking and AC still blowing cold. Radiator support appears ok. 2019 honda civic
