in the "Refined" series, they always have to check tools out. So if a crew checks the tools out they think they'll need, but end up needing a socket they don't have, they have just wait on someone to go get it (with a trip to the smoke pit)?

The crews don't have their own tools they carry with them?

Are operators as shitty as portrayed?

Will Birdseed ever get foreman's pay?

Looks like QA and Safety would be combined.

This is just how Refined presents it. In real world they do wildly different things

Is there as much profanity, threats and drug/alcohol use as portrayed?

In my experience they don’t have to check tools out much but they do have to check out parts/materials. These are the “in house” guys that are available as permanent labor. Not someone hired to do a particular job and leave.

Most operators are cool and try to be as helpful as possible. You will run across some that are burned out and hate to have their YouTube, Facebook, or whatever the frick they’re watching interrupted by someone who keeps their job in existence.

Quality and Safety often flow to the same Director or VP but are mostly seperate departments.

Both will be bypassed in the name of production

Doubt it

2 completely different jobs that require completely different skill sets.

QA has to understand the technical specs of what is being worked on or produced and what is needed to fix it.

Safety has to know how to stop any and all work from getting done at all phases of a job and be a total pain in the arse so that it simply looks like they are making a difference (Sarcasm…. Kind of)

"socket they don't have". Solution 40 years ago was to equip maintenance teams with fully stocked Georgia Buggies to take to job site with them.

That show is very accurate for a chemical plant in the south.

That heavy equipment operator was drawn right out a plant in Lake Charles I felt like.

Birdseed reminds me of some kind of perm contract maintenance hand. Think like a Turner or B&R maintenance sides.

The short term/in and out mechanical contractors for turnarounds I been around have been pretty legit and not like birdseed.

That Welder is copy and paste across the country.

The refined crew are definitely contractors, and are portrayed accurately.

Contractors can do this for tools and things like PPE they don’t already have. If we put it on the permit the tool room will allow them to borrow the tool or PPE. If it’s something not intended to be reused they just throw it away.

Definitely can be, I’m an operator and I can acknowledge it. Most are use to not having much to do and when you ask them to do something they throw fits. Some are burnt out because they take all the overtime available also though.
