For the life of me I cannot figure out the obsession with Israel from all sides of it. Whether it be the very “Pro Israel” camp or the “Israel is responsible for everything” camp

My general opinion of Israel is I don’t care one way or the other. I probably prefer to have a semi-western government there instead of another extension of the Caliphate. But prefer Israel to work this out themselves. If they can’t protect their land, then so be it, that’s on them. If they need to turn the Gaza Strip into glass, then so be it. They can do what they have to do to defend their land and if in their best interest expand their territory. They can knock themselves out with all of that for all I care.

Why do so many Republican politicians like Cruz or Graham or whoever obsess about Israel? I have yet to meet an average ordinary American who gives one flying f*ck about Israel and how it affects their day to day lives.

It’s people taking positions on things that require nuance and they lack any foundational knowledge, understanding, or experience to have that nuance

So they just pick which camp they like best and become npcs for it

There is a large pro-Israel lobby that funds a lot of congress. None of them hide this and they run on pro-israel platforms.

US has interests in the middle east because it contains a large amount of oil and oil trade matters to the entire world.

Israel has become less popular recently because of the war in Gaza and alleged links to Epstein. Same people pissed about us attacking Iran.

So people on the left and right have been pouring it on about how israel runs our government.

I think it is fair to say Israel heavily influences us to be pro-israel. But we wouldn’t be friends with Iran if Israel didn’t exist. We overthrew their government to install the Shah and the current government overthrew the Shah and installed the Anti-American Islamic Revolution government.

Because Oil.

Synopsis:

Democrat American Jews hate Israel unless they are being funded by them

GOP American Jews have some weird fascination with Israel because they are in fact funded by Israel

There are different angles to this.

There is a (Growing) sect of Evangelical Christians who, for whatever insane reason, think Israel is important to the merging of their religiously-led political beliefs.

There are neocons who use Israel as a beacon for warmongering, for obvious reasons.

You'll find politicians grabbing onto one or both of these based on constituency.

There are also various versions of conflation merging antisemitism with Zionism, which follow a spectrum from full on "The Jews run everything and the ones in Israel aren't really Jews and are Khazars" (completely merging the concept of Jewish people and the state of Israel) to " Israel, as a state, has compromised many of our politicians through clandestine operations and influences America", ignoring the whole "Jewish" part of it and making it solely a claim against a state actor.

It's complicated because you can take from parts of all of these along different wavelengths to create your own adventure, so to speak. For example, after the Israeli attacks on Gaza following October 7, you had a irrational NPC talking point emerge that "Dems hate Jews" or "DEMS are the real antisemites" as a gotcha, which conflated Israel/Zionism and being Jewish in sort of a bait and switch gotcha attempt. That's kind of morphed a bit with the actual antisemite movement of the right growing online and how the non-antisemitic right is responding.

This. When the other side is adamant about taking over the world and killing everyone else , there’s never going to be an end to this shite . Unfortunately they’re hell bent on bringing that cancer to western society

A lot of it has to do with social media too. Tons and tons of posts and reels that have hundreds of thousands of likes and comments are circulated everyday with misrepresented, dishonest, and outright incorrect information. Most folks don't have the time nor the desire to dig into these claims but they form their opinions based on what they see. It's the downside to a free exchange of information combined with a busy/lazy populace. You can package a position on something that doesn't have much substance to it but do it in a manner that is easily consumable and most folks will eat it up.

Most people I know tend to be confused on the Israel/Palestine conflict, but generally support Israel as far as them being allowed to defend themselves against Hamas, etc. but that’s about as far as it goes. I don’t know anyone that would want to go to war for Israel or anything like that.

Power and money from AIPAC. And possibly also the fact they’ve come from a tradition in evangelical Protestant Christianity.

Israel is the new boogeyman for lazy people.

Not radical islam, Communists, or progressives ruining our country… but a country the size of the New Jersey on the other side of the world

Or just outright lies, like this:

The person who created this saying purposefully lied about the attribution to get legitimacy. Almost nobody online will verify the origin, either. However, that is a meme created by Kevin Alfred Strom, a legitimate Neo-Nazi playing off the ignorance of online behavior.

Take 2 seconds to see the amount of money, your tax money, that is given to Israel and then another 2 seconds to see how much politicians are being given through AIPAC.

If you had issues with Democrats and how they were funneling money through the NGO's then you will be just as pissed off with how they are funneling money through AIPAC.

If you are a 20-28 year old and find yourself in a position that you may never be able to afford a home, then just find peace in knowing that you are completely financing 9 million jews in Israel so they can have free healthcare, free higher education, and are incentivized to have more children and it's all subsidized by your taxes, then they get us involved in their conflicts because they own our politicians via by buying them or blackmailing the ones that are pedos.

Look, all I’ll say is that if any other country had a PAC with their hooks in our politicians like AIPAC, people would be losing their shite. They are also the only country in history to ever attack a U.S. naval vessel and face no repercussions.

I looked into this modern iteration of the Khazar thing that I ignorantly posted about a couple of times in the past. I now agree with you, it's pretty much bull shite.
