These old school OEMs are exactly the reason Intel and AMD are forced to live in the dark ages of computing.
This is a prime example of how vertical integration and building for final purchasers instead of middlemen can produce incredible results. Unfortunately, there’s maybe five companies in America that realize that.

Used Surface 4 was $300 including shipping 1.5 years ago. A Yoga IdeaPad 710S from 12 years ago with Mint installed resumes at the same speed.

Planning a trip to the Apple Store this weekend to check them out, my MacBook Pro has seen better days and we are looking at replacing an Air as well.

The review on Tom’s Hardware is very well done. The reviewer makes it clear that it’s not a machine for heavy lifting that most people do not do anyway. Web surfing, documents, email, video are all more than satisfactory and should serve most people well.
Hell, most people don’t rip movies and music much anymore, rendering a 4K vid to 1080 took 9 minutes compared to a 5 minutes on a Surface and Snapdragon, but how many people do that, anyway? Some do, yes, but not really that many.
Many pros, few cons for an entry level computer.
One thing I did not like was that they do not have the camera light that lets the user know that the camera is on. The software solution is not enough, IMO. The reviewer said that this was not a good idea if you give one to a kid, and I agree.
Anyway, if I get another laptop this is the route I’ll go. My Windows Thinkpad is long in the tooth but I do t do hardly anything on it anymore.
