Seemed like those old Godzilla movies had a 90s renaissance

Saw Godzilla vs The Smog Monster (Hedorah) at the drive in. Pretty sure it was my first time seeing a full Godzilla movie, other than what had come on TV.
With King Kong vs Godzilla, even as a kid I figured out, before seeing it, that Godzilla loses to Kong because of the title. And because of that, I hated the movie.
King Kong Escapes though, I had a weird crush on Lt. Susan Watson (Linda Jo Miller) Found out later her voice was redubbed by another American voice actress, Julie Bennett...

‘85 or The Return of Godzilla for me. The new look was a huge upgrade imo. Still probably the best head design of all the versions.

Loved all the old Godzilla movies, especially with Mothra
But as a 90s kid, the shitty T-rex Godzilla with Matthew Broderick was the best for me purely due to hype at the time and the age I was when it came out.

Pretty much the reason why I was so disappointed. They showed the teaser trailer before a movie and I was so pumped. Thinking about how great it would be in the new "Grande" type theaters. And then it wasn't.

For me, I leaned more toward “Rodan” for some reason…
I also remember liking “The Mysterians”.(also from Japanese studios as I recall)…

Godzilla 1985 was the “scary” Godzilla movie when I was a child.
I think because there was an active resurgence in Japan with the Heisei films in the 90s, there were a shite load of Godzilla toys and figures based on those movies coming out in the USA even though those films weren’t available in the USA yet. I remember going to KB toys and seeing Biollante and Space Godzilla figures and my mind being blown

Right so The Return of Godzilla which is the same movie came out on 1984 in Japan then ‘85 game out here after. I still have the 12’ collectible monster, it’s practically indestructible. You’re right he was scary, SOB looked mean as hell, love that design.

Can't remember. But when my kid was about six or seven I turned him onto Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger. You know, the one with Jane Seymour. And by that time he had been in a school play where he dressed up as a Genie. He would dress up in that costume and then watch the show. I think he had a play sword. I taught him a dance that is reminiscent of the way Russians dance and he would go to town when the good music played. He had a fast dance and a slow dance version. He will remember that show all his life. You know, when the skeletons fought Sinbad (Patrick Wayne), my son was there fighting them in our living room.

The first Godzilla I saw was Godzilla v. Megalon (a giant cockroach or something). Godzilla needed the help of Jet Jaguar to win. A truly awful movie, but I was a kid, so it was awesome.
Later, I saw the original with Raymond Burr and it was truly terrifying to my ten-year-old self. I also loved Rodan and Godzilla v. Ghidra (now known as King Ghidorah).
TLDR: The original is my favorite.
