We need to lock in fellas.
FOX8
NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - A National Guard soldier accidentally shot a military comrade Tuesday night (March 10) at the Jackson Barracks base near Arabi, according to a Fox 8 source familiar with the investigation.
The New Orleans Police Department dispatched several units to the scene around 6:56 p.m. An NOPD spokesperson would only confirm that a man sustained a gunshot wound at the scene, 6400 St. Claude Ave.
An initial report Fox 8 obtained from a source indicated a man was shot in the chest and that efforts to control his bleeding were underway.
The NOPD said the wounded soldier was taken for emergency treatment at a hospital, but did not disclose the soldier’s condition. The department also did not say whether anyone has been arrested in connection to the shooting.
A National Guard spokesperson would not confirm details of the shooting but said the NOPD was investigating.
“There is no threat to anyone or anything on the Jackson Barracks Louisiana National Guard property,” National Guard spokesperson Lt. Col. Noel Collins said told Fox 8.
The initial report said a 911 caller reported the soldiers were mishandling a weapon they did not realize was loaded when the accidental discharge occurred.
On Feb. 8, a National Guard soldier deployed in New Orleans left a rifle unattended in the bathroom of a Bourbon Street business.

On US Army WTF moments Facebook page said it is the same unit that left the rifle in the latrine and had a ND by a LTC. If true, an entire chain of command is about to be relieved.

Gun safety is no accident.

Could be, but goofball men are more likely to be doing some stupid horseplay with a gun.

Isn't it rule one to treat every weapon as loaded?

4 Primary Rules of Firearm Safety
Always Keep Firearm Pointed in a Safe direction. Never point your gun at anything you do not intend to shoot.
Treat All Guns as Though They are Loaded
Keep Your Finger Off the Trigger until You are Ready to Shoot
Always Be Sure of Your Target and What’s Beyond It

I guess people forgot this photo.
When it looked like the Texas National Guard arrived in Chicago, and looked like they were headed to the nearest Golden Corral.

This doesn’t sound right at all. There is no reason why that weapon would be loaded, zero.
Before that weapon would be brought into the building, it would be cleared.
