Incredibly consistent as a top contender and the threat of “March madness mode” but with a ceiling. They never have a team with good enough players to win the whole thing even years ago. I’d say his top players are mateen cleevs, freaking draymond, and mo Pete. Being an all time coach you’d think once in a while he could have some studs

Jason Richardson and Zach Randolph were big time recruits

As were Shannon Brown, Paul Davis, Gary Harris, Adreian Payne, Miles Bridges etc…

Went to a camp with Davis one summer. Me, him and Brian Butch were the only whites.

Just strictly guessing here, but I think he made a decision to not pursue the one and done types and instead pursue guys who may not have been as hyped but were more likely to stick around for 3-4 years. Guys like Denzel Valentine and Adriean Payne developed into really, really good college players who were the centerpieces of Final Four teams.

Jaren Jackson - 2017
Xavier Booker - 2023
Miles Bridges - 2016
Max Christie - 2023
Jase Richardson - 2024
He’s had big time guys, he just hasn’t had Duke/UNC/Kansas level McDonalds guys so he’ll have a team with 1-2 McDs types surrounded by a bunch of 4 year college types playing Duke with 4 1st rounders so it feels that way in the tournament.

There was a time where Jalen Brunson seemed like an MSU lean.

I checked out their 26 commits.
They have 3 top 40 guys nationally, and another top 100 guy.
Not sure what you’re looking for.

All these people named and Morris Peterson can't get no respect.
