FWIW I agree, flame away but at least read the other side of this debate.

But before anyone rushes to demand a coaching change, LSU fans should ask a more important question:
What exactly did LSU hire Matt McMahon to do in the first place?
Rebuilding a program that has been structurally damaged rarely follows a straight timeline. The more relevant question isn’t simply what LSU’s record was this year — it’s where the program sits in the rebuilding arc that began when McMahon arrived in 2022.
LSU Didn’t Just Lose a Coach in 2022 — It Lost Credibility
When LSU moved on from Will Wade, the consequences were immediate and severe. The FBI investigation, wiretaps, and NCAA scrutiny didn’t just end a coaching tenure — they triggered a mass roster exodus and left LSU starting over in the most competitive basketball league in America.
Recruiting pipelines collapsed
The roster was wiped out
NIL infrastructure lagged behind SEC peers
LSU entered the SEC with no stability
In practical terms, LSU basketball had been structurally damaged.
LSU didn’t hire the flashiest name available. The university deliberately chose a coach known for discipline, structure, and program integrity.
That coach was Matt McMahon.

Okay, so we hired McFraud to bring discipline, structure and integrity.
We don’t play disciplined, there’s no structure, and we play with pretty lackluster integrity considering we’re getting blown out by 15+ a game. frick that

Keep him, fire him, whatever. tApathy is real

There is no question that he SHOULD be fired. I don’t think there is any argument to me made otherwise.
The only question is whether LSU wants to invest in basketball. That’s it….
It won’t be cheap to fire him, and at this point I think people would rather let basketball fall to the wayside and invest those resources in the other sports (mainly football).

There is no case. He has been terrible, we're in last place after year 4, our style of play is boring and the PMAC is dead. CASE CLOSED.

This makes me feel soooo much better. We can relish in our newfound “integrity” while we lose every game. Give McLoser an extension and a raise for the incredible job he is doing restoring our program to complete irrelevance!

Guilbeau loves to watch this fanbase suffer. He’s a sick puppy.
I automatically disregard anything he writes.

Honestly, I’ll watch if they win. I watched when Wade was here. If they don’t win it no big deal to me. Keep him? I am not invested in the basketball program. Whatever

So what exactly has he done to repair/improve any of this? And what do his teams actually do well? These excuses are truly pathetic. There’s more apathy surrounding LSU basketball right now than at the end of Trent Johnson’s tenure or Johnny Jones’ tenure. Significantly more, I’d argue. Make the change.

4 years later no one gives a shite about any potential infractions, no one cares. The players are going to a program that will promote their own self interests first, and the potential to win second. Neither are happening.
We are simply not competitive and there is too much at stake. Basketball can actually make a ton of money for us as long as you dont wear a bra on the court. There is a responsibility to make us competitive.

Ah there it is. You’d prefer LSU be a doormat for the rest of the conference. Just be honest.

That is clearly written by AI lol

Just hire a local high school coach. Can’t do any worse.
Posted on 3/8/26 at 1:30 pm to secfballfan
It’s a case but it’s a completely shite one. The best case for McNugget is the money he is owned. Not a single case can be made for him based on results or direction of the program after 4 years.

It’s a bunch of excuses that’s all. Either LSU is serious about winning or not.

We spent roughly $9 million on the roster put together by McMahon. So the NIL argument is moot, that is enough to buy you a ncaa tourney team.
Now I will say that you brought in Ronald Dupree after this coaching staff had already signed 5 players to the team. So maybe you hand Dupree the reigns and moneyball McMahon for next year, if he can’t produce again then he just not cut out for this level.
For the record, I would have got rid of him last season. If you keep him one more year the Pmac will most definitely be a morgue all year if he doesn’t win.
