Not the “Hooked on Phonics” program, per se, but the reading education that I got in elementary school was phonics based.

Wasnt it phonics based everywhere through the 90s?

I can’t say exactly when phonics stopped being used in favor of some research-based-data-driven-tier-one-best-practices nonsense, but Louisiana and Mississippi brought it back recently, and reading scores have increased significantly.

There are actually several states that are patterning their reading curricula after Louisiana and Mississippi. That’s something that I never thought I’d see in my lifetime.

Reading Recovery clone curriculum started on the west coast and midwest in... the late 80s early 90s? Something like that. A return to phonics based teaching kicked up in the south, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Arkansas, about a half decade or so ago, with the rest of the country starting to follow suit.
