No doubt he’s one of the best centers in the league when he plays. Problem is he hasn’t played much the past two seasons. It seems like half the league needs a starting center so his trade value has never been higher. Luke Fortner was lowkey our best OL last season and had good chemistry with Shough. Trade McCoy for a day 2 pick and re-sign Fortner.

If the staff is sold on Fortner then it would be a solid move. Letting go of bigger name players for compensation for equivalent backups is just a sign of a good organization.

Only concern is then depth if fortner gets banged up.

I have BEEN saying this lol. I love McCoy, but he can’t stay on the field……and Fortner was EXCELLENT. The problem is that Fortner was so good that I believe he will likely have a solid market.

I am also not sure that there will be a good market for McCoy with the injury concerns. If there is a market for Erik, we have to hope that Fortner would like to come back on a decent deal that is lower than Erik’s deal (because we need to really spend on a G).

The best markets for Erik would likely be Chicago and Baltimore (but I am expecting Chicago to pursue Linderbaum now)

Fortner is a FA. Yes they should resign him, but currently it would be a tragic mistake to do anything with McCoy.

Until they solidify the 2 guard positions, McCoy is way too valuable to the iOL group to consider moving him anywhere. If this team was back to having actual/borderline All Pro guys at both guard positions; then you could at least play around with the idea of moving on from McCoy.

*Just saw he was a ProBowl guy in 2024 with only 7 games played The PB really is a joke

This would be a lot easier to do if our Guards weren’t black holes. And if Cam and Demario are gone, you’re going to need some vet presence in the locker room.

I don’t want to trade McCoy at all. Would I be upset? Nah. Just think it’s the wrong time to do a move like that

I didn't see a starting caliber center in Fortner but a swing man C/G 6th. If the Saints thought he was they would have wrapped up a new deal before the year was out.

Solidifying C is more important than a 2nd OG.

If we can actually get Linderbaum/ McGovern at C then it would be more advantageous to play McCoy at OG than to trade him.

If we can get a stud C AND a stud OG then it may be more advantageous to trade McCoy/ Ruiz.

I would still rather resign Fortner, move McCoy to OG, and sign a stud OG > trade McCoy.

There is no market for a trade of McCoy. Would we pick up on his contract, count on him being our starter and give up a good draft pick to boot if he was a Brown with the last two years of injuries? Its laughable.

I disagree. You can add Chicago to the list now too.

If we trade McCoy I really don't think we get less than a 3rd. 2nd or 3rd. A pro bowl Center isn't going for less than that even with his injury history.

It’s POSSIBLE, but he has only played 14 games over the past 2 seasons.

You should look up the endowment effect because you definitely suffer from it.

Young star CBs and stud WRs don’t usually go for 2nd round picks. You aren’t getting that for a 29 year old center that has missed a bunch of games the last two years with injuries. Not to mention there’s a handful of FA centers out there.

Keep McCoy
Loomis will gladly get a 5th from him meaning a 7th from Payton and think he won the trade

We will have dead money if we trade McCoy and you cannot ignore that he is very very good when on the field. I'm not saying he's 100% worth a low 2. I'm saying his value is between a 2nd- 3rd.

Even if you claim he isn't "Worth" that then you could say the same for the value of Crosby or AJ Brown.

We aren't trading him for less than a 2nd or a 3rd especially if we are taking on dead cap.

If we aren't getting a 2nd/ 3rd then it is highly unlikely he gets traded at all.

At that point the questions is "do we keep McCoy or trade him for a 4th and have dead money". Not much of a question as we would just keep him in that scenario.

He's under contract. Its not about what you think his worth is, Its about the cost to get him off our roster. And it won't be a 4th.
