Florida Dad Explains Why His Son Is Entering The 8U Transfer Portal & The World Of 2nd Grade NIL Culture

A Florida father pulls back the curtain on the "super team" culture of 8U football, explaining why his son Tonka is hitting the portal to find a program where he is "celebrated, not tolerated."

From gas cards and guaranteed jersey numbers to "preferred" spots on elite rosters, a professionalized culture is taking over youth sports.

This isn't high school sports we're talking about. This is the reality for seven and eight-year-old football players in Florida where the NIL and transfer portal culture of college football has made its way to second-graders.

For one father of a seven-year-old boy, the pressure is officially on to either evolve with the game of youth football "or get left behind." That's the reality as Juan Rodriguez sees it for his son, "Tonka," who played the 2025 season for the Kowboys franchise.

AI graphics are so horrible. I absolutely despise the fact that I see so many different programs and/or accounts using them.

How's that "guaranteed number" shite gonna work out when he wants #24 as a freshman and the junior or senior that has it just laughs in his face.

This is the parents' fault by letting their kids "transfer" in the first place. shite wouldn't be an issue if they didn't let it become an issue.

There was an Outside The Lines on the betting culture of youth football in Florida. It's absolutely insane.

That's dumb. Honestly, kids really shouldn't play contact football until they are 12ish. Obviously they can still learn the game earlier.. 8, 9 years old, but adults who take youth sports to this extreme are idiots.

at some point this is clearly insane

"Parents are driving two or three hours at times just to get their kids to practice, often for a team located in an entirely different city. That's the commitment level we're seeing now," he explains.

Parents stacking elementary school and middle school teams is the most bizarre thing I’ve witnessed as a new dad.

Are you so pathetic as to get a charge out of your kids manufactured super team crushing a team full of 6th graders trying to learn and have fun playing basketball with their friends and classmates?

Hispanics don’t play football.

Get this kid a soccer ball or baseball Glove.

The players just want to have their names in the EA Video games, they said
Let a guy sign some autographs at fan day for money, they said
These poor slaves deserve to be paid, they said

Now look what these frickstick judges have done to the entire sport of football. Before long, every level of football from the NCAA down (NFL is king and exempt from this shite) is going to be some unrecognizable pile of shite.

Hate it when that happens. Billjaminaxxon had to hit the portal after his 10u travel ball team wasn't giving him enough playing time and they completely fricked up his WAR. Coaches son was getting all the NIL money too. Had to move on.

There was a poster in another thread on the MSB a couple days ago lamenting having unskilled teammates on his kid’s 8U team.
