Why the day an event happens gas jumps even though the fuel in the storage tank was bought at a lower price?

Gas prices are based on replacement cost.

Do you complain when the price of oil drops and the price of gasoline drops in their storage tank even though it was refined from higher cost crude?

Just be glad they are not as vulnerable as crawfish prices!

This has been $15 for the last 20 years

Because some of us are tired of driving around with a pair of used truck nuts. We deserve to be able to buy some unused nuts.

You will never see gas drop $0.50 overnight,

No you wouldn't. It didn't drop like that during covid.

But when you hear about barrels prices dropping on the international market, it is usually 2-3 weeks before you see it dropping at the pumps.
Hmmm

And yes, gas prices start reducing almost immediately following a drop in WTI. If they didn't then competitors who don't start reducing their price wiil experience an immediate reduction in their sales.
Gas prices are highly elastic.

It didn't drop like that during covid.
Just prior to the declaration of the COVID emergency the average price of a gallon of regular gas in the U.S. was $2.57/gallon.
Once the emergency was declared on March 13, 2020 gas prices started falling steadily until they reached a bottom of $1.77/gallon in April.

Because oil companies are greedy.

At one point the price of a barrel of oil actually went negative.
Commodity brokers couldn't give it away to get it unloaded from leased tankers.

Nowhere did I say the price didn't get very low. I'm saying that the cost at the pump did not drop $0.50 overnight like it recently just went up (approx).
