The Army dismissed a cadet from West Point after he was convicted of extortion and indecent conduct earlier this month for using generative artificial intelligence to create fake nude images of a woman, according to the academy and service court records.

Ex-cadet Cayden Cork threatened to publicly release the deepfakes of the woman if she did not send actual nude photos of herself, according to a charge sheet obtained by DefenseScoop Thursday. Cork pleaded guilty to the charges on Feb. 10 and a military judge sentenced him to be reprimanded, forfeit all pay and dismissed from the Army.

The judge, Col. Trevor Barna, also sentenced him to 10 days’ confinement, but an academy spokesperson said he was credited 10 days, resulting in no time in custody.

Officials have not disclosed which AI software tool Cork used to create the deepfakes. A spokesperson for the academy declined to provide additional information Thursday.

Is there anything sadder than bribing a woman for nudes by threatening to make fake nudes of her?

You act like it takes more than a few seconds to take real nude photos.

I wonder what the punishment would have been has he not threatened blackmail (basically). They’re gonna need to come up with changes to laws (or create new ones in general) with all the AI shite looming. Seems like it won’t be long until you can almost literally create anything with any “person” you want. shite is weird.

Taking real photos requires the individual to be a willing participant. This is a completely different ballgame of extortion

To be fair, it's up to the King William? county district attorney to press criminal charges. I don't think West Point can do that.

How did he do this, exactly?

Ahh, yeah, I don't know how any of that works. Seems like he got off real light though.

The images aren't real, so how exactly would extortion work here?

There's no way anybody is getting money from me by threatening me with fake "evidence".

It's like being expelled from school and being fired from your job. The district attorney has to decide to charge him for penalties that can be applied outside of the USMA.

What a scumbag that guy is. You're in shape, have direction, and you have to threaten women to get stimulation? Low. Low.

if he was a West point cadet wouldn't he be subject to military justice. Seems like the Army could prosecute him for extortion.

I'm not sure if he could be subject to the UCMJ or not. But, even in ROTC after you'd signed a contract, you weren't really subject to the UCMJ, if you weren't commissioned yet, you just got kicked out.

Clock is ticking on the DA. Which I'm sure is busy with misgendering issues or some other such priority.

I don't know how any extortion works anymore when you can just say it's a deep fake and 99% of people will believe you.
