Schism with a NATO partner. It's an opening to bust that thing up. At the very least, Spain should not announce anything.

We need to import all their fine women.

Spain maintains a Level 4 terror alert status, but apparently taking out the epicenter of terror activity in the known universe is too much for them.
Some people just don't want or deserve help.

Shocking.

When NATO allies agreed this year to significantly raise their defense spending, one country stood apart: Spain. In June, under US pressure, NATO adopted a new goal of spending 5 percent of gross domestic product (GDP) on defense by 2035, with 3.5 percent going toward core military needs and 1.5 percent designated for related areas such as cyber and infrastructure. Spain, however, was the only member of the thirty-two-nation Alliance that refused to commit to this target. Instead, Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez secured a special exemption for Madrid, insisting Spain would cap its military budget at approximately 2.1 percent of GDP, a level he described as “sufficient and realistic.”

Europe is lost. Now, hopefully people can pull their heads out of there asses and see why Greenland was so strategically important.

Once you have a base somewhere do they really know what you are doing from it?

We're obligated to come to their defense if they are attacked per the NATO charter that we signed on to.
NATO does not obligate them to assist us in "totally not wars" where we are the aggressor.

Spain is in a tricky spot financially, and US policy should try to make it worse - can easily hit their tourism sector (which is a massive part of their economy). There is no need for freeloading commies, they dont even give us "free" support (UN votes, base rights)
It is ridiculous the US is tethered to the defense of countries like Spain and Turkey who undermine us at every turn
