Obviously it is wise of them.

Not without cost though. They are demonstrating to be a weak ally.

Hard to create a sphere of influence from the bench.

China is not a threat offensively in regards to military. Taiwan‘s unique because they count that as part of mainland China . They are a horrible military ally because they will not come to your aid.

They are too busy paying for protests and liberal propaganda in the US. They do not care about Iran. They care about eakening the US within.

China is a regional threat primarily.

They don't have the ability to assist anyone with any real impact.

We moved more assets in two weeks via C-17s then they could move in three months.

At the end of the day the US Armed Forces es is the greatest the world has ever seen and it’s not close. China may have a bajillion people but that have very little experience. Meanwhile in America…. A decade hasn’t gone by where we haven’t been involved in some sort of skirmish.

There was talk of them selling Anti Ship Cruise Missiles to Iran.

https://www.reuters.com/world/china/iran-nears-deal-buy-supersonic-anti-ship-missiles-china-2026-02-24/

That may have made this happen faster.

In the end they aren't that capable far from China.

They might be peer/near peer by Taiwan.

But they aren't even near peer anywhere more than 2000 miles from Eastern China

China is a paper tiger. They surely suffer from what every dictatorship is plagued by - subordinates who will not give bad news to the dictator nor tell him when his ideas are stupid. As a result Saddam Hussein thought he had WMD. His subordinates would not tell him they had failed to get them.

China has a mostly fake military. Xi probably doesn’t realize it though. I don’t see how he stays fooled because the military hardware and software they give to actors like Iran never works against the US or Israel.

I’d include Iran in their region.

They don't have the airlift, or the deep water shipping to help anyone.

Venezuela had some of their best defensive equipment, to protect their regional ally.

The US subverted every system they gave to the Venezuelans, and with ease.

China was given an invaluable lesson in how behind they are.

That kind of lesson can attenuate certain "priorities"

Venezuela was to their military tech, what Sputnik was to NASA

What do I make of it?!?!

I fully expected it and would have been absolutely shocked if it was otherwise. Come on, nobody in their right mind would expect support!

China ain't going to do anything, and neither is Russia.

They were allies of convenience, united only by their shared opposition to America and Western civilization. There's nothing else in common. They probably aren't shedding tears over this.

China doesnt have the military to fight globally. They built their military (especially their navy) to fight regional wars

China also hates muslims, they put them in "re-education camps" - they tolerate Iran, Pakistan etc because they are enemy of my enemy, and they like cheap oil
