Disney with a 5 year old and 14 month old

Just got back from a trip to Disney with aforementioned kids and wife. Honestly, we had a blast. It was extremely packed due to it being both Mardi Gras and President's Day but we managed to do most of what we wanted with minimal issues. We did purchase the Lightning Lane pass which is a must IMO. If you are spending that much money already it is not worth being miserable and waiting in lines to save a few hundred dollars. I highly recommend going when they are young, even 14 months old. Will she remember it, no, but I always will. She loved meeting character and the slower rides. Her face lit up and you could tell she was looking around in amazement. I know Disney gets a lot of hate on this site, some of it very well earned and deserved. However, there are not many places that can give a child that young things to laugh and smile at all day. There are things I roll my eyes at while I am there, but overall it's worth every penny when we go. I will always recommend it to anyone who is considering going.

the younger ones definitely enjoy the character meet and greets the most

You can pay teenagers locally to dress up as Elsa or Mickey Mouse for far less.

Could not disagree more. Don't go before they're 5.

Care to give any reasoning behind that?

I 100% agree with this statement. Have had to explain this to the parents enough times (they simply hate Disney and find a reason to bitch) that they are used to me ignoring it when it comes up again.
Also, they will eventually forget some of those memories, but you'd be surprised some of the random shite she will bring up from that trip while having random conversations with her, looking through pictures, or if you go again in a few years.

I have never understood taking babies to Disney that will remember “zero” of the experience

And people always say "but they loved it so much". Yeah. They would have also equally loved toddling around the backyard or playing with normal toys at home.

I thought through this myself as we went to Disney several times with our child from age 4 through 10.
It's simply a personal decision if it is worth it to deal with Disney parks with children of a certain age.
The trip at age 4 trip was cool and worth it, but they don't remember much. And that's ok.
But for us, personally, I can't freaking imagine taking a toddler or a fussy baby all day to any Disney park.
But if you are able to have a great experience doing that, that's great.
Go for it. (just don't have it screaming incessantly)

She's 14 months. Anything and everything can make her laugh and smile.

My daughter was 5 when we took her to Paris, and she remembers plenty seven years later. I surmise that the problem with Disney is that it is not a unique enough "view" since they see all those characters and stuff in movies, shows, YouTube videos, etc. all the time.
But a toddler, especially in the summer, will be flopped out in the stroller by early afternoon, miserable AF. Saw it constantly at Disney. Women over plan and overschedule, and overheated toddlers didn't sign up for that. Definitely plan a pool at the hotel day as a break.

I saw a Mom? pushing a stroller with twin infants in the blazing sun. It was 90 degrees in April.
If that's not fun, I don't know what fun is.

Very good point, Lemmy. Agreed
It depends on the child or how many you are dealing with at one time also.

Freedom is great.
It sounds like you enjoyed yourself.
I would make a different choice, but that does not invalidate your choice.

Don't go to Disney with your kids, regardless of age, when a tropical storm parks itself on top of Orlando.
If you do, you'll hate everything Disney for the rest of your God-given life.

Kids that young try Disneyland. If you during the offseason the park isn't crowded at all. Plus you can stay at the onsite hotel and walk to the park that is literally right across the street from the park.
