What to do in mamou

I have some friends that want to spend the last weekend in March in or around mamou. Only thing on their list is a trip to Fred’s and a visit to st Anthony’s catholic church in Eunice. I told them I’m not sure mamou has any hotels but Eunice had four. And the only noteworthy restaurant I could suggest is DI’s going out of Eunice. Any suggestions or recommendations is appreciated. Also mentioned the liberty theatre in Eunice as something to do but not sure it is opened since the renovation.

Drink in the morning and get into a fight before noon. Then you have the rest of the day to recover for tomorrow morning.

Go to Fred’s and pick up a 50 year old with fewer than 20 teeth.

Here are some great things to do in and around Mamou, Louisiana (in Evangeline Parish) — a small town famous for its Cajun music, culture, food, and festivals:
?? Local Culture & Music
Fred’s Lounge (historical music venue) – Mamou is known as the Cajun Music Capital of the World, and Fred’s has been an iconic spot for authentic Cajun music and dancing for decades, especially lively on Saturday mornings with live bands and a party atmosphere.
Cajun Music & Dancing – Experience local tunes and dancing at various bars and community spots along Sixth Street and in town — a great way to soak up real Cajun culture.
?? Annual Festivals & Events
Mamou Cajun Music Festival – A popular two-day festival (usually in September) with nonstop Cajun music performances, dancing, contests, and local food.
Courir de Mardi Gras (Cajun Mardi Gras) – If you visit around Mardi Gras (late winter), see or participate in the traditional Courir de Mardi Gras (a horseback run with costumes, music, dancing, and gumbo collecting) — a very unique local celebration that’s different from New Orleans-style Mardi Gras.
??? Eat & Drink
Krazy Cajun Cafe Cajun restaurant serving classics like gumbo, po’boys and regional favorites — perfect for authentic local food.
David And Loris Kitchen Highly rated casual eatery in town with Louisiana comfort food.
??? Nearby Attractions & Outdoor Activities
While Mamou itself is small, there are a few excellent nearby places you can explore on a day trip:
Chicot State Park (Ville Platte, ~20–30 minutes away) – Large state park with hiking trails, fishing, horseback riding, camping, and scenic lakes — great for nature lovers.
Swamp Pop Museum (Ville Platte) – Small but interesting attraction showcasing the region’s musical heritage.
Prairie Acadian Cultural Center (Eunice, ~20 minutes away) – Learn about Acadian/Cajun history, culture, and heritage through exhibits and programs.
Lakeview Park & Beach (Eunice) – A local park and recreation area with lake access, good for a relaxed outdoor outing.
?? Explore Cajun Country
Scenic drives & countryside – Take a drive through the Evangeline Parish prairie, rice, and crawfish fields. Locals often enjoy exploring the rural landscapes and small towns nearby.
Visit other nearby Cajun hubs like Eunice or Lafayette for more music, food, markets, and cultural events.
Quick tips:
The vibe in Mamou is very small-town and cultural, centered around music, community events, good food, and local traditions.
If you’re into Cajun music and heritage — especially authentic local gatherings — this is one of the best places in Louisiana to experience it firsthand.
Would you like specific food and drink recommendations in the Mamou area too? (I can list local spots and specialties.)

Easier to find 2 women with 10 teeth each, then head on over to the swinger's RV park.

Pass by the KBON studios on 2nd Street in Eunice and tell Gumbo Phil hello.
Mel’s in Eunice has good boudin.
Mo’s in Mowata, just south of Eunice, has great boiled crawfish.
RIP to the Purple Peacock.

Whatever you do, don't take a dump at Freds. No lock on the bathroom door. Last time I was there I walked in on an old man wiping after taking his Saturday morning dump. I don't know who was more startled, him or me.
