Courtney Scott, who was a top official in former Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome’s administration, was indicted Wednesday on multiple charges resulting from an ongoing corruption probe into East Baton Rouge Parish government.

Also indicted Wednesday was Veronica Mathis, 39, whose company received a contract for the city-parish in 2023. According to documents obtained through a records request, Mathis’ company Build. Brand. Design. was paid to provide “technical assistance” for the mayor’s Safe, Hopeful, Healthy Baton Rouge program between June and August of 2023.

According to a source with direct knowledge of the investigation, Build. Brand. Design received more than $738,000 in contracts related to the initiative. Scott allegedly received nearly $194,000 in kickbacks from those funds through payments made to her company, The Byan Group, the source said.

Records show Scott oversaw the city-parish’s contributions to the Mayor’s Healthy City Initiative, a non-profit that supported several social programs, including Safe, Hopeful, Healthy BR. She resigned from the mayor’s office in July 2024 after she was accused of beating a man with a chair at a Baton Rouge night club a month prior. A video recording of the incident later surfaced in a civil case against her.
oh, and...

There seems to be a common suspect type for these types of crimes in Louisiana.

how is Broome getting off scot free

Until people serve hard time and have to come out of pocket to pay for all legal & court fees plus restitution, they will continue the corruption.

Once her underlings start talking to get lighter sentences, maybe they’ll have enough on SWB to get her.

Gotta bring in the foot soldiers first.
Then they flip on the under boss
Then the under boss flips on the boss.
Unless someone winds up dead, of course.

She's about to sing like a canary.

This always brings back memories of high school.
When you see black girls you knew to be nice and rational turn absolutely rabid in a fight against another black girl you get it stuck in your mind that there are some differences.
You also learned when it was black girls fighting that there were no true safe areas around them. You always need to keep your head on a swivel and make sure you had a lot of room to back up and/or move sideways. You didn’t want to get trapped against a wall or fence when the fight came in your direction.
The old west backs to the wall never dealt with a sista fight.

They can’t be trusted with power or money. They abuse the first and steal the second. Oh, but they should be treated equally! When will we learn?
