The goal of attacking Iran is regime change (on behalf of a certain foreign country). Pretty much everyone agrees that this is the actual motive, not nuclear enrichment levels or curtailing ballistic missiles etc.

Well you're not going to get regime change from the air alone. Sure you'll kill leadership and destroy military targets, but the mullahs have planned for that and have endless succession plans. Their IRGC is a massive force and are fanatical to their revolution...from their ranks will be new the leadership for Iran and they are likely to be far less restrained and more brutal than the current leader of Iran.

The only way to get regime change is boots on the ground...air strikes does nothing. Prepare for dead american soldiers In a war that we have no business fighting.

Because it would make a lot of people either be hypocrites or criticize Trump so it's easier to just pretend that reality won't come.

For one, it’s mostly navy and air force involved.

We aren’t stacking infantry in that area.

As I understand it, boots on the ground in Iran is a geographical challenge.

Just on a surface level it seems like boots on the ground in Iran would be a logistical nightmare.

Because it’s contrary to Trump’s entire philosophy while president

That (+ Russia to a lesser extent, which isn't as relevant now) is why we (US + West + Israel) haven't gone that far, historically.

Toppling Iran cannot be achieve with convention ground troops. It's a natural fortress and any traditional boots on the ground movement immediately starts out on the low ground and severely out numbered. Regime change is going to have to take place with special forces that can blend into the population and air support.

There will be boots on the ground but it will be special ops, not an invasion

We can remove a regime that way or, possibly, install a puppet (in Iran's case, again), but we can't affect actual regime change that way.

Actual regime change will require boots + popular support nationally.

How are you going to force regime change with nobody on the ground to enforce it?

Linseee Graham wants boots on the ground, followed by small scale nuclear. He is surprisingly at odds with Johnny Bolton, who wants to see small scale nuclear then boots on the ground. 99% of Congress wants "just don't care as long as I get my cut".

So, it's up in the air.

Because their is no heavy deployment of ground forces in the area. Boots on the ground in Iran would have to be made from beach landings or a massive airlift operation. There is no indication either one of those things are in the works. So it's safe to say boots on the ground is not currently part of the plan.

Oh look another libtard leftwing military expert. You really ought to let Pete, the JCS, and the Pentagon know this info before we proceed. They definitely haven't thought this out.

Weren't you crying back when we bombed Iran the first time that this was going to be another "endless war"?

STFU and let the adults handle grown up things, umkayy?

Our see eye A is orchestrating this, now. They'll use spook tactics to support the revolution and subvert the regime.

Could there be boots on the ground? Sure, but it would be the regime's worse nightmare. The people of Iran WANT to be liberated and see the regime toppled. But it appears we're going to leave it up to the people and just give them what they need. Hopefully that works out and doesn't backfire.

There will have to be at least some boots on the ground. We’ll need to at least control a number of airports and probably some ports.

I don’t think it’ll be anywhere near Iraq type levels, or at least I hope not, but there will definitely be boots on the ground if we want to see regime change.

The trick is taking out the IRGC while leaving enough of Iran’s army in place to provide security for the country that’s over twice the size of Iraq.
