Also banning the tush push, creating a three-point conversion after a TD, and eliminating punting from inside your opponent's territory.

quote:

The UFL is making changes in the following areas:

Standard Game Rules:

Four-Point Field Goal: Any successful field goal kick from 60 yards or further will be worth four points.
One Foot In Bounds: The UFL will require only one foot in bounds for a legal catch, adopting NCAA rules to increase passing and scoring and potentially enhance player safety.
Red Zone Penalties: The UFL will reinstitute the rule of half the distance to the goal for penalties committed in the Red Zone, which reverts back to current NFL rules.

Tush Push:

Elimination of Tush Push: The league has eliminated the Tush Push, a play in which after the quarterback takes the snap, he immediately drives forward as the offensive line surges and is assisted by additional players behind him who physically push him forward into the surging offensive line.

Punting and Field Position:

No Punting Inside The 50-Yard Line: No punts will be allowed from anywhere inside the 50-yard line (+49-yard line and in). This rule does not apply after the two-minute warning of either half.
Once the ball is made ready for play inside the 50-yard line, a team cannot punt even if a subsequent penalty or loss of yardage moves the ball behind the 50.
If the ball is on the 50-yard line, a team may punt the ball.

Overtime: Three Attempts Per Team

Three Attempts: Teams will alternate attempts from the five-yard line.
If after three attempts for each team the tie has not been broken, the teams will alternate attempts until there is a winner.
The home team will have the choice to go on offense or defense first.
A coin toss will be implemented in lieu of home team choice.

Points After Touchdown

Three PAT Options: Teams will have three scrimmage play options to elect their point-after-touchdown attempt, plus a new one-point kick option:
One-Point Conversion: 33-yard field goal
Two-Point Conversion: Ball placed at the two-yard line.
Three-Point Conversion: Ball placed at the eight-yard line.

Clown league. Can the rules of football just stay the same for a while? If I were running the UFL, I’d adopt the rules of the NFL as they existed in the 80s and just leave them there. They might attract some people yearning for a taste of what made football fun to watch.

I disagree. This is what the UFL should be doing. Throw shite at the wall and see what sticks.

It has nothing to do with the rules. It’s just over saturation. When Fall rolls around, you can find football on tv 4 times a week at minimum. I don’t think the average person can devote that much time to watching games, shifting between college and pro.

The NFL is paying attention, i.e. the new kickoff rule.

Exactly

No "defenseless receiver"
No legalized intentional grounding
Get rid of the BS special protections of the QB

Basically, every player safety rule enacted in the last 20-25 years

I would go a step further. No onside kick. I side of 2 mins, You can elect to put the ball on your 1, but you cant punt.

This is interesting. I am guessing this is a move to get scoring to increase.

This is way too gimmicky and eliminating a lot of strategy with regards to field position.

They need to find names that people have actually heard of and they might attract viewers and interest. They don't need superstars but maybe guys like DeVito ...and pay them at least NFL minimum for one season

4 pt FG, cool, one foot down cool. That doesn't really change the game too much.

Tush push.............who really cares as long as the OL is lined up correctly.

No punting on plus side of field...........that's dumb

3 pt extra point........ I think they're just trying too much. Tough to follow.

4pt FG. Why reward a team that is inept on offense and can't move the ball down the field with more points?

If anything, short FG's should be worth more to award the team for achieving good field position.

Pretty crazy career for a guy who never played varsity in high school, trained himself to play QB via YouTube, walked on at his hometown JUCO, and was initially so far down the depth chart his coaches wanted him to change his position.

Agreed. Even the NFL even took stuff from the OG 2001 XFL.

I understand the UFL is not a great on field product. But it is good for 2 things:

1) A good testing ground for new rules etc
2) every once in a while a player or two does well enough that they get another look from the NFL and make one for their squads. Even if that’s only short lived, I appreciate the extra oppportunities.
